The only thing the FA has to do is limit the amount of foreign players a club can field at one time to allow young British players to progress, but it will never happen because they know they haven't got the power to implement it.

If the argument is preventing the progress of English talent, why non-EU players, why not just non-British players.

Do they? Like when Utd got that really easy work permit for the Chinese lad that spent about 3 years in Belgium?

You're talking out your arse, as is buzzer b.

I might be talking out of my arse Haydos, but I do wonder that the fact they are bigger, better, well known clubs could quicken up the deals regarding getting round them.

I dunno, you're right, maybe I am talking out of my arse.

For what it's worth Buzzer, I think you made a valid point. However, we shouldn't be alarmed at setting precedents.

The last one we led to create nearly aided Portsmouth almost going out of existence (10 point deduction for administration), obviously bar the other issues that were present at their club during the period in question.

Sure there's probably a chant in there somewhere... #Pioneers

Whilst I agree there needs to be a limit on non EU players to give young English players a chance, they need to be extremely careful not to damage the Premier League. Without the foreign talent, the EPL would be dire.

Wonder if this quote from FA is on the back of recent issues....

The Football Association is determined to stop the use of an appeals process to sign the non-European Union players who, the governing body fears, block the progress of young English footballers.

Why don't they just boot Chelsea out of the game?

They really are a corrupt bunch of arseholes.

It's laughable that they blame other countries rather than ourselves.

I wouldn't be entirely against a quota but making an example of this signing is a disgrace. £9.5mil wouldn't even land us Troy Deeney. Why would we sign an English forward at the same price when they're obviously going to be worse?

English premium is a huge, huge problem. The fact it's now accepted as something that exists is nigh-on impossible to tackle.

If they care about the development of English footballers they should want teams like us that use predominantly English players in our first team to stay up, and if signing the odd foreigner will help us then so be it. The problem isn't the teams like us, it's the ones who have no English players and don't bring through English youngsters.

Exactly. Not only is young foreign talent much cheaper, there is a hell of a lot more of it than English. Could you imagine the transfer prices if every club had to scramble around for the few English stars coming through.

You would get players like Wilfried Zaha going for £15mil.

Wonder how many people moaning about the work permit delay are part-time UKIP members..

Even if they were, UKIP are opposed to mass unskilled immigration - highly skilled immigrants would still be permitted under their view of immigration laws, and Kramaric is clearly highly skilled.

Codswallop. Every other countries (within the European Union) footballing associations simply prevent clubs from fielding over a certain amount of non-EU players or set a maximum of non-EU players that can be registered. An example of this would be that in France, clubs can only register a maximum of four non-EU players in their squad without the need for a work permit. Why our FA don't copy a system similar to this I'll never know but I will always suspect that it would be to help out the so-called bigger clubs because if a system like this was introduced, clubs like Man City and Co would be in big trouble and would probably need a brand new squad.

I suspect it's out of the hands of the FA and all down to PL rules, seemingly those that run the PL have little or no interest in where players originate from and certainly no interest in how the English National Team performs.

It's all about how much they can sell the TV rights for and as the bulk of that is for overseas screening the more wide spread the nationalities of team are the more they are likely to rake in.

I think I'm right in saying this (not entirely sure) but the reason it's a non-EU rather than non-British quota is because we wouldn't be legally allowed to stick a quota on other EU players. One of the primary policies of the EU is freedom of movement of workers etc... between its member states. Any such quota would absolutely go against that idea. Correct me if I'm wrong but a similar example would be saying only 10,000 EU immigrants can come in per year. We're simply not allowed to do that as we are part of the EU and under EU law movement between nations is unrestricted.

Sort of right

A quota wouldn't work for inside EU BUT you can put a block in place for new members Croats actually I believe have restrictions on coming to UK until 2020 I believe

Yeah Croatia is a weird one because they are now in the EU but the UK has the ability to restrict freedom of movement until that time (2020 or whatever it is). However, I think we were talking about a non-EU quota in general. The poster suggested "why not non-British instead?" and my response was to say that, for example, due to how the EU works I don't think we'd be able to do that as players from France, Germany etc... have freedom of movement and we would be blocking them. I'm not 100% certain but I'm fairly confident that's how it works and why there aren't already those sorts of non-British quotas in place.

Yea but there are the home grown rules which are supposed to encourage development of national teams but if you look around the premiership the academies are full of kids from all over Europe. The eu would have a field day on British only quota, if anyone fancies that then they should vote UKIP
