Jakemoore Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Sky has produced an article based on the bottom 12 clubs in the premier league with all the stats. It's quite an interesting read but make of it what you will, stats don't tell the whole story.. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11662/9644799
kingcarr21 Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Villa really are struggling for goals. They will soon be dragged into the relegation zone if they dont improve.
Fox 4 Life Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 It's amazing they are as high in the table as they are. On Saturday it wasn't just the lack of creativity, their defence looked awful! If it wasn't for our poor finishing that could have genuinely been 4-5
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 based on these stats, we should be 16th. It's a defensive errors stat that is missing, showing why ourselves and Everton have been sucked down the table
Dan Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Stats, whilst interesting (and sometimes funny), are over-used in terms of their importance. There are far too many variables for them to used to draw conclusions.
Stadt Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Our recent form seems to have cut out most of the things we were doing wrong defensively, so with an improved defence and Caramac taking chances we should be fine. Stats can't take form into account
Bamba's Babes Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Middle of the pack stats, just where I think we'll finish out of these lot. Based on those stats it's our passing and possession that needs to be improved.
Vicki Vixen Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 How can an article be written about relegation candidates that does not include Newcastle? They are a terrible side and will finish well below the likes of Everton.
bmt Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Stats, whilst interesting (and sometimes funny), are over-used in terms of their importance. There are far too many variables for them to used to draw conclusions. Also a case of the wrong ones being used imo. Maldini only made one tackle per 1.8 games because he was so regularly in the right place that he rarely needed to. I think the world of football statistics faces problems because football as a sport is too dynamic. Regularly changing tactics and philosophies mean different stats are important even from one year to the next. Still, I think these statistics reflect how poor we have been in the middle of the park (passing etc.). I think keeping Drinkwater in form and injury free will be the biggest factor in whether we stay up or not.
GaelicFox Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 All that matters is points The rest is crap Crystal palace touched 1-12 to be relegated last year They would have been terrible on stats But they turned things round and won points Points is all that matter

Based on those stats it's our passing and possession that needs to be improved. I definitely think we need to retain the ball better but we create a lot of chances for how much of the ball we actually have. Also a case of the wrong ones being used imo. For example 2/3 years ago I think loads of emphasis was put on possession simply because of how Barcelona (the best team at the time) used to dominate it with 70%+ every game.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Throughly agree. This is an interesting read, I haven't read all of it but read some decent statistics so far.
StanSP Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 How can an article be written about relegation candidates that does not include Newcastle? They are a terrible side and will finish well below the likes of Everton. They're not a terrible side and they are not relegation candidates.
The Doctor Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 How can an article be written about relegation candidates that does not include Newcastle? They are a terrible side and will finish well below the likes of Everton. Probably because they aren't relegation candidates?

StanSP Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 At the time of writing they were 10th and 8 points above safety!
