Around 12 stone ;)

So, 2/3rds of my weight. Not a fair contest. If I see you, I'll just break your fingers and leave it at that.

Baa baa broken sheep,

Have you any friends?

No sir, no sir, cos I'm on the wrong forum and I'm a little sh!te.

Don't talk about another man's wife. The tinder thread is fair game [sic] though.

Anyone do it?

What do you hunt? What guns do you use?

I am thinking of giving it a go. Probably just some bird hunting first, with an over under. Moving on to bigger game with a decent rifle.

Why?

Are you hungry?

Is a duck threatening your life?

Are you living in the stone age?

Just what is the pleasure in depriving something of its life, just for your fun? this is an honest question.

If you mean walking onto the plains with a knife and bare feet, and tackling a wild animal, (wild dog Pearson style) then preparing and feeding your family them "possibly" i can see you getting a buzz out of it, but if your going to take pot shots with the latest piece of high performance, technologically advanced weaponry from a few hundred feet... whats in it for you?

This is a great question. I don't really know, I'm interested in it, never done it, never taken another animals life. I'm not sure I could do it. But I'm interested.

In terms of latest technology. I can see your point. I would want to stalk the animal, and use relatively traditional guns. Old shot gun, and a bolt action rifle. But I'd only be interested in killing for food. Not looking for 'trophies'.

I've been weighing up the cost of buying springbok meat v killing some and freezing. I think the latter ends up being more cost effective in the long run. (We like spring book in our family, it is low fat, lower cholesterol and tasty!).

I've also mentioned on FT that I have 'prepper tendencies'. And i think handling a gun is a skill I think I would like to acquire, because you never know...

I hate fox hunting with a passion. I always wonder why grown ups get their kicks from chasing a shit scared animal before it being chased down and ripped to pieces in front of them. Well done!

That is a strange argument. Most hunters are very keen animal lovers.

Some game reserves see hunting as necessary to preserve animals through the money hunting generates.

And a domestic dog is a very different relationship to that of an animal like a kudu. Kudus taste very nice, not so sure about my skinny terrier.

I'm not going to turn this into an animal rights debate, but plenty of people are 'very keen animal lovers' and that doesn't make what they do morally right. Breeders for example. And lets not pretend that the only way to generate money is to hunt them, although I'm not ignoring the fact that the money can be prosperous to the animals.

The taste of food is a personal preference, clearly there are parts of the world that would very much enjoy to eat your 'skinny terrier' (that sounds like a very strange euphemism). Or failing that, skin it for leather, or even use it for breeding. But there we go.

I'm not blind to the benefits of hunting, I just would never even consider participating in it myself. I think it's backward and there's a reason similar acts have been outlawed over recent years, though I can't see it going much further, particularly under a Conservative Government. I'll stick to my football, ice hockey and cricket for now though!

That's a fair enough opinion. I understand why some people have an issue with hunting. As I said, I don't know if I could do it. But I am interested in it, and will probably give it ago. I wouldn't say hunting for food is backward, but I think the 'trophy hunting' is very weird. Although, I think a lot of communities benefit from a kill, the meat is divided up amongst the local staff etc. not 100% sure on that though. But who decides what is morally right or wrong? Are Halal/Kosher butchers morally right? (definitely not that one in the news a few weeks ago). People eat meat, animals are bred to be killed and eaten. What's the difference between breeding a cow and a buffalo? And what's the difference between slicing a cows neck in an abattoir and a quick clean kill in a game reserve? I am not necessarily opposed to fox hunting for instance, if the dogs are just used to track and flush out the fox, and the animal is dispatched quickly with a gun.

Btw I've lived in places where my dog would be eaten. I've eaten 'bush food' myself when living in Liberia, I think it was some sort of monkey. My colleagues loved it, it was a delicacy. They eat everything. The only animal population that increased during 14 years of war were crocodiles.

No one ever believes me when I say how much I weigh. They usually tell me I must be pretty dense. I assume they mean with regards to mass.

Bore off. He started a thread to ask genuine questions about something he has an interest in. If you have no interest in it, go back to the animal rights thread to have a cry wank.

He just wanted to know what MC's reasons behind his passion were, I really don't think that warrants that level of response. MC himself even called it a great question, before giving it a thought out answer. Relax, chap.

What I find amazing is that after I posted a picture of what I shoot for pest control/ vermin the passion of some people, ive not got a problem with that as a whole and everyone has an opinion, but after getting abused by Lamby, which when I take notice of his words it's a bad day he 1/ called me a fooking vermin cvnt and then hoped my gun would shoot me,and this is the shocking bit 4 people + 1 that.So they hope I get shot.

This might be odd and I don't know how to explain this but I'm not a serious twitcher but when fishing I take a pair of binoculars with me to see what birds are about.Chuffed if I see something different and was really pleased when I saw a Red Kite and a Goldcrest a few weeks back whilst on my travels at work.pulled over and watched the Red Kite for a few minutes.im on the look out for Turtle Doves as these are now rare and tend to report to the RSPB if spotted,so I admit it is odd that I shoot pests but have vast knowledge on birds and look forward to seeing different species,I can also say I probably have greater knowledge, enthusiasm and interest on this subject than those who want me shot.May I suggest that these people gen up on this subject before making stupid comments or want me shot.

What bird in the UK has the slowest wing beat per minute?dont Google have a guess anybody( dead ones do not count)

Hi Cambridge. Presumably a bird with a massive wingspan. Some sort of eagle?

First part right,2nd part wrong. Not a bird of prey.

Got my tickets today by the way so just need to sort with my mates train times for Saturday,I will keep in touch.
