I was actually pretty happy with how we set up today. Only playing Winks in the pivot with Bobby and James pushed further forward was the correct tactic against an inferior opposition. I thought that Winks, and James in particular, both played well.
The problem that we have is that we do not look to transition the ball forward with any urgency. Winks is a good playmaker, but we seem to be afraid for anyone else to pass the ball forward. We do not play out from the back; we play around with the ball in inconsequential areas of the pitch. Our style of play is both boring and ineffective.
When we went a goal up, I wanted to see us go all out fir the second goal to kill the game off. Instead Martí made defensive substitutions and we were punished. The players have to carry some of the blame, but, for me, the system and style of play are the bigger issues. I have never felt more apathetic or disconnected from the club.
In a bizarre way, I wish that our squad/team was weaker so that we didn't consider playing this slow-tempo, possession-based crap was an option.
