here saw the tv footage of the fella coming off the pitch, and it looked so fake, but no doubt at the time i'd have thought is was a really nasty cut, through a main artery or something!

wonder if this'll be brought up when the media compare the "scum" footballers to the "bastions of honesty and respect" in Rugby when the next time a group of players confront an incompetent official...

Very good point.

You are absolutely correct. You'd never find a footballer faking a cut to affect the outcome of a game. Oh no. Especially not a goalkeeper. From Chile. In a World Cup 1990 qualifying match. Called Roberto Rojas. No sirree!

He didn't fake it - it was a real cut - the only issue was he had cut himself with a blade hidden in his sock...well, if he is that desperae to have it abandoned, I say fair play...

I actually cant wait to see my Dad and wind him up about his "hero" Deano being banned.... hes another one (my Dad) whos constantly going on about Rugby being the game for Gentlemen and anyone who watches or plays football is a thug.

This is brilliant! :D

Nathan Woods from Dream Team. Heroic.

an incident like this could NEVER happen in our sport either

Fuck off, mate. What's the difference between this and Didier Drogba rolling around to waste time? Or feigning injury to get someone sent off?

I tell you what the difference is - the "bastions of honesty" in rugby know how to find, punish and make example of a cheating bastard. If this was the above mentioned footballer he'd have a three match ban and his club would be fined something like £50'000.

Quins were fined a quarter of a fucking million (that's a hell of a lot in rugby), the player has a year's ban and Deano has a THREE YEAR BAN - that is if anyone will even employ him again!

Football has a lot to learn from rugby - not the other way around.

How long was Cantona banned for for assaulting a fan? A year? And how about Trevor Brennan? Life. After appeal the sentence was brought down to five years but given the man was thirty-three at the time they were basically one and the same.

So don't even dare, to be honest.

actally the Rugby guy cut himself too when he got back into the changing room.. the oppositions phyiso smelt a rat and followed them all back down into the Harlequins dressing room and was refused entry to look at this so called blood injury..

But good for Rugby... for giving a tough harsh sentence that might actually deter someone else from doing the same for a change...

yeah but when the player goes off for stitches you can't bring a set piece specialist back on

Yeah, but Roberto Rojas didn't go off for stitches. Chile were losing 1-0 and needed to win to qualify for the 1990 World Cup. Rojas did it to get the match abandoned, which it was

Like I said, this is absolutely no different to trying to get players booked or sent off in football.

I disagree. I think there's a difference. Cheating is cheating, but there are different levels of it.
