Loan Signings

Recommended Posts

Loan signings are fine when they arrive to do a specific job and when there is no other way we would afford or get a top quality player to do a job that is presently being neglected. Hence Ryan Smith and 10/10 for that.

But generally loan signings running around like rogue asteroids on a collision course with the "regulars" is not a good idea.

We've got 17/18 decent performers in our squad just now which means that, even without loanees, five or six will not be playing.

In the wings are talents like Wesolowski, Chambers, Dodds and Sheehan who are certainly close to contention.

If Levein decides we need more fire power then he can do something in January.

But, we are still not sure what the impact of Gold-Smith will be. Hammond netted for fun when he was playing (for only half the match) and it could be that both he and Hume will benefit.

We should certainly know by Christmas and by then Levein will also know if Goal-Smith is going to be here for the rest of the season.

Let's keep the ship steady for now. One step at a time and that next step is Gold-Smith.

He only asked, not sure that type of response is warranted especially as it's very early posting by cisse4city and theyt could have been thinking for days on what to post.

On the other hand wtf does the name cisse4city mean, is that another loan wanted instead of Pongolle ;)

You cannot simply build a team out of loan signings... and mixing a significant number of loan players with the regular team is also not a very good idea, as Thracian explained.

I reckon we have lots of talent emerging from our academy anyway... if what we have is not enough, I agree with Thracian again that Levein can still do something about getting that missing player (probably striker) in January...

Loan signings are good to help you out when your down to the bare bones or if you are lacking in a certain department until the transfer window opens, but for the long term future of the club it isn't good because we need a settled squad, chopping and changing doesn't help.

We were?... Wow what a scoop that would have been :o

I'm pleased with the squad we've got now though. Once Wesolowski is back and Chambo/Sheehan are regularly competing for a place in the squad, we should be well equipped to challenge anyone in this league. On paper at least.
