davieG Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 Source Foxes don't interest Fergie DARREN Ferguson insists he would be 'off his head' to apply for the vacant Leicester City manager's job. The Posh boss has been installed as third favourite by a Leicester-based bookie to replace Ian Holloway in one of the hottest seats in football. But Ferguson today distanced himself from a move to the Walkers Stadium. Leicester have already had four full-time managers since owner Milan Mandaric took control in February 2007. Leicester bookie Mark Jarvis make Ferguson a 5-1 shot alongside Paul Ince of MK Dons to land the job. Only former Derby player Billy Davies and ex-Wycombe boss Paul Lambert have shorter odds. But Ferguson said: "I'd have to be off my head to go there. They must have had half a dozen managers in the last two years so it doesn't appeal to me at all. "Anyway I already have a great job with a great chairman so I'm not interested in going anywhere." Holloway parted company with Leicester after the club dropped into the third tier of English football for the first time in their history. They look sure to be a powerful force in League One, but then so will Posh if national bookmakers have priced their title odds correctly. Posh are as low as 8-1 third favourites to win the division with William Hill. They are 10-1 third favourites with Coral, 14-1 fifth favourites with Ladbrokes and 16-1 eighth favourites with Skybet. Ferguson added: "I'm not really bothered by the odds. We were a very short price to go up last season, but we coped with the pressure and pulled it off. "There will be more quality in League One, but there is nothing there to be afraid of. On a level playing field Leeds are worthy favourites and there is no tellling what Leicester will do. "But our odds are based on our ability and the fact that the bookies will probably expect us to spend plenty of money. I've said before we won't be splashing money around because we don't need to. "You will need good strikers to prosper in League One and we aready have them. If we can start well I am sure we will be up there challenging for promotion at the end of the season." Ferguson is hoping to tie up a couple of new signings before he starts a family holiday at the weekend. Scow Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 Proves half my point about why the likes of Fergsuon and Ince wouldn't even come here, but you still getting people suggesting them.
teblin Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 to be fair to Milan some of the changes had to be made. Kelly was never the man for the job Worthington was a temp Manager Allen by all accounts was mental Megson left of his own occured to the prem after "we" all shouted Megson for bolton. Holloway got us relegated. Worthington would maybe have been a better choice to stay on than appointing allen but the other changes had to be made. Its not the sacking of managers that is the problem its choosing them.

SamL Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 Lets face it, we're not an attractive option for somebody who is already in a job. I think we'll get someone who is currently without a job i.e. Billy Davies, Paul Lambert etc.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 hes got a good point about the job Ferguson is probably right but i think he would be surprised to find that there would be more managers interested in the city job what they would be in the posh job.Hes the same as Ince neither of them have done anthing yet out of the ordinary Ferguson wants to remember the higher you go the tougher it comes and at the moment hes living off is old mans reputation.
lildave3 Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 This is hardly news, I never expected him to be interested anyway.
Daggers Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I could hear the chicken noises from DF over here in Birmingham. Pah! Any manager worth his salt wouldn't be scared of being sacked.
smokey Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 He only got promoted as they were one of the richest clubs last season in league 2, see how he does next year with his 5,000 average gate side!! Cheeky git, he does have a point but this job is there to take for someone with the bottle, only problem is they have to have instant success with MM and our fickle fan base!
The Stig Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 If I was a manager, I wouldn't touch us with a twelve foot barge pole.
fox123 Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 Not really fussed to be honest, he doesn't have the managerial experience anyway, he will be judged on what he does with Posh in this division, Paul Ince the same, Billy Davies IN!
JoeyB Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 The opnly good thing about Darren Ferguson is who is dad is. Sir alex Man utd ---- few decent loan signings, wouldnt go a miss but oh well
mancunianfox Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 His comments made me smile as they must surely sum up what most managers are thinking about this job at the moment.

lookwhaticando Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Worthington would maybe have been a better choice to stay on than appointing allen but the other changes had to be made. At last, someone has seen sense!
Asha Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Allen by all accounts was mentalWorthington would maybe have been a better choice to stay on than appointing allen but the other changes had to be made. Maybe slightly mental...but lost one game. He only had 4. A slight conflict and he was gone...surely Mandaric would have been better to try and resolve the issue rather than just sack him. We would not have been relegated with Allen as manager.
lookwhaticando Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 A slight conflict and he was gone...surely Mandaric would have been better to try and resolve the issue rather than just sack him. How do you know it was a 'slight' conflict? Does anyone really know how serious it truly was? I certainly don't, and I suspect you don't either. Speculating as to what he did or why is pointless. Speculating as to whether he would have relegated us is more pointless. Is it just bad luck that he's not managed to find another job yet, since being sacked so early in the season? Or do you think something is seriously amiss?

We would not have been relegated with Allen as manager. allen was a total idiot. banging on about his 'working class roots in dagenham blah blah' who cares!! upset the internal status quo at the club as i am aware. was speaking to a coach from the club last summer and it was clear that before the season had even began he had upset everyone. it was the correct decision to get rid of him. i feel we would still be up if megson hadnt have left. i welcomed his appointment but felt he did the dirty on us! holloway blew it for himself and the rest of us. constant team changes. fine at first when he 1st came but he was still doing it at the end of the season. a man with too many options gone mad. rant over
