  1. The history of the world for better or worse is the history of different groups of people united by language, culture and symbols. That will never change.
  2. Lots of examples from history also of people keeping alive national symbols and culture in the struggle against historical oppressors.
  3. Thankfully I think there's just enough legroom between 'I expect my flag to be faithfully represented on the shirt of my national team' and 'genocide'.
  4. This is quite naive. National symbols like flags are important to people. I assume you've travelled to other countries and observed this.
  5. "It upsets all the right people" etc etc
  6. Really enjoyed Paris. Was nice after London to be in a large capital city that still has lots of independent shops and traditional restaurants and cafes. And contrary to expectations I liked the people - friendlier and more cheerful than London.
  7. Agree with all of this, especially the social media. It's like politics and culture in general, more people than ever talk about football and share football content, but most of that content is so trivial and vapid
  8. We're more like a moth - disintegrate to dust
  9. Said last year what Robins has done since 2017 is one of the best jobs I've ever seen in football
  10. Kudos. Got to love the Cup really
  11. I really like Robins as much as I want to hate Cov
  12. I think on par for 20/21 is a bit harsh. 5th + trophy with some of the injuries we had was a good achievement.
  13. Christ just looking at that 1/4 line up in 2000. I think at that point we would've been the highest team still in it!
  14. Thanks @kushiro as ever. I think the 2000 defeat is an underrated disappointment. We had a great team that year beset by injuries, and if we'd got past Chelsea we would've potentially had games vs Gillingham, Newcastle and Villa to win the cup. I think that and 97 were our best chances, much better than 2001 with Taylor. ****ing Chelsea...
  15. Anybody else had a really bad cough and catarrh recently? Seems to be something going round London for sure. More unpleasant than ones I've had in recent years.
  16. I remember at the time on some forums (eg foxfanxine) people were saying we needed to keep perspective and stop whinging, Taylor had done a good job overall
  17. are you shrinking?
  18. Their manager is Italian...
  19. FB reminded me this morning. What a night. Was watching in a classroom in Italy after the students had gone home.
  20. We went on a bit of a run after that game iirc. Boro later in the season was worse imo.
  21. I find the constant claims and counter claims of racism very tiresome but didn't Abbott once complain about European immigrants taking jobs in London, and that they didn't understand the English language or institutions? Pretty awful woman.
  22. Think about Gillespie's handball and Walker nearly saving the penalty once a day
  23. Not strictly LCFC but while living in Sofia I was pretty drunk in some ex patty type pub and walking back to my seat decided to sing "shit on the Villa" as I walked past a table of Villa supporters. In my drunken state I thought they'd find it hilarious but apparently not. Pretty big lads too. Thankfully my very beautiful and charming girlfriend got me out of trouble diffused the situation by telling them how much she knew about Birmingham as the cradle of the industrial revolution, how the UK ambassador was a huge Villa fan, and how much she loved Stilian Petrov. I sat sheepishly behind her. Not my proudest moment, and she still brings it up from time to time.
