  2. Please don't, important people read this forum
  3. I'm assuming you also went for '____ note' at the start. Perfectly acceptable imo!
  4. Well I was wrong thank goodness. Very impressive guy.
  5. You need to stop doing this. I thought you'd learnt your lesson after Cooper, van Nistelrooy, Cifuentes and Rowett. It's not healthy.
  6. I'd just got back to my apartment in time for the start of the second half. I'd been teaching an evening class in a nearby town and followed the first half on the train back home. The ten minutes or so after Hazard scored were surreal. I can't really remember much about it other than I was in some kind of transcendental haze like the tunnel of light at the end of 2001 Space Odyssey. I called my Mum, who'd watched them lose 3 FA Cup finals. Thought about my grandad, who saw six swans flying over Filbert Street. Then my flatmate - probably the only Neapolitan I've met who didn't like football - knocked on my door brandishing a bottle of wine his father had called him up to tell him to buy for his Leicester supporting housemate. We got through it, then went down and bought more, and finally got to bed about 3am. The next day, severely hungover, I rolled out of bed near midday and wandered to the newsagents to buy the last Gazzeta left - with Storico Titolo per il Leicester written on the front. I sat and read it in the square with a coffee and cake, another surreal moment for someone who grew up with Football Italia on Saturday mornings. I thought that was as weird as life could possibly get. Over the next decade, life got a lot weirder. But it never got any better.
  7. I've posted this before but I like that he talks about specific things the team did well but could also improve. So much better than the usual hackneyed crap like "I think the occasion was too big for us" that you get from a lot of the managers in the EFL.
  8. Thoughts turn to a final day thrashing of Blackburn in 1997, and Stuart Wilson getting on the scoresheet

  11. It's partially this but also the dumbing down of political culture and culture in general.
  12. The first half of the 1970s is under discussed in today's endless discourse on where things went wrong in the western world.
  13. Brought me great joy in fleeting moments. The goal away at Watford is one of my favourite moments in recent years. Probably one of the most talented players we've ever had but we saw it so briefly, alas.

  17. Don't really see how that's controversial. He brought it under control with his hand.
  18. I love the smell of free chang in the morning. It's the smell of.... mediocrity.
  19. Yeah sorry I wasn't really replying faithfully to the point you made.
  20. We've experienced enough over the last twelve years to last two lifetimes. Can't say I'm that jealous of winning the Vauxhall Conference.
