If you've watched a lot of him fair enough, from the few first team games I've seen him play he's been deceptively slower than he looks. But again I really haven't seen much of him.

Seems like he’s got all the tools a 2020s genuinely attacking RB needs. I haven’t watched a lot of either admittedly but he looks much more explosive than Aluko - who is no slouch by any means but not rapid.

Throwing Leuven in as well makes it much more appealing to a multi club group. You have a (weak) but pre-established link between a club with top 8 PL facilities and lets say a top 25-50 academy in the world and a club close to breakeven in the top 8 European leagues. If you had deep-ish pockets (for a football club owner) a relatively modest 3-5 year investment and you have a top half PL club and a Europa/Conference Belgian one. In the mean time syndicating processes, software, scouting networks and so makes it easier. You only have to look at Midtjylland and USG to see how quickly smart smart clubs make a dent at the the top end of these leagues. The name recognition is huge and maybe I'm overrating it but 99.99% of clubs in world football nobody has ever heard of, even in L1 we're part of that 0.01% - which if you're looking to purchase a club that is pretty appealing. Also picking Reid upfront is unforgivable, it defies all footballing reason, if he starts again on Saturday then Martin is past the point of redemption for me already.

They were also under their most successful manager in 45 years too. You're being disengenous RE Coventry - as it was Hull they drew with but they were also much the better team. We also laboured past Northampton, the attacking performances were very similar.

If you don't have the players to play how you want you have to adapt. Even so other teams with worse players will have played out better than we did on Saturday. He's yesterday's man, ultra possession football has been susses out and if he doesn't give the players more freedom we will be drawing 1-1 a hell of a lot. Serious promotion contenders would have dispatched a newly promoted side easily.

We’re not going to stay at sub 1 xG per game and I think Notts County only rallied because we were so poor in possession - we didn’t relieve any pressure by offering a threat. The worrying thing is it was the wrong selection, wrong style and wrong approach topped off with really poor execution. With Macfarlane at LB and Bristric up front were a much better team. What worries me is I don’t think McCarthy will get dropped and it will take Martin too long to figure out which attacking configuration works. No point throwing the baby out with the bath water just yet but we’re stunting ourselves with this manager. The quality is there. At worst I’d say we get a low play off points total but that’s only because we have 2-5 players that just have no business at this level.

Anybody that’s ever looked into rudimentary stats/analytics or has even grown up playing football computer games wouldn’t have signed McCarthy. Instead we let the manager we’ve almost pinned the whole future of the club pick his favourite broken toys.
