He's too similar to what we have. We already have two paceless players that are No 10/winger/striker inbetweeners in Reid and Chaplin. Cullen isn't a bad player but he just doesn't mesh with what we already have. A proper number 9 and a direct winger are the most urgently needed players and Cullen doesn't fulfil ether of those well.

Also managers getting signings they really want with no mind to who comes in next us another reason we’re in this mess. Our managers barely last 6 months, spending our seemingly limited money on a player that the next manager might not fancy is daft. The budget has to be spent on long term, high upside players. Again Cullen probably seems fine as an individual player but it’s how it all fits, smacks of poor process. The Skipp deal should have been vetoed because we had no sort of non-attacking, non-defensive midfielders in Soumare and Winks. The Ayew deal should have been tanked because we’d just signed a paceless, uncreative, experienced winger who barely scores - we didn’t need two. It’s pretty simple, use the money we do have to make the most impactful signings in positions where we’re weakest. Chaplin, Reid, Alves, Page is fine for 10s. If we’re playing him upfront then sign an out and out number 9 instead, not a ST/AM/W inbetweener like Perez. I’m worried that if we can’t play through teams we’ll be very easy to nullify. Mavadidi will be our tallest and most physical forward player ffs.

Let’s optimistically say he plays 60% of the time for half the season we have a team you can throw a blanket on. Both in style and width. Squad composition has been a huge problem and we’re just not learning - if we hadn’t signed Chaplin, I’d be up for this signing. Instead it’s another Skipp, Soumare, Winks situation but up the pitch instead. Mavadidi is our only pacey wide option and he’s been shit for about 80% of his time here now. Our strikers are Opoku + assorted 18/19 year olds. We can’t afford to build a poorly balanced squad and actually spending the tiny bit of money we can on him is a gross misallocation of our resources.

Far too similar to Chaplin, agree with @coolhandfox this is Ayew and Reid all over again, plus we still actually have f ucking BDR. We’re going to come up against a lot of deep defences, we need some pace and 1v1 ability AND a physical forward - instead we’re collecting too many players with overlapping profiles. A proper nine is what we need.

Kilpin, newish place and the interior is fine for what is is, not a cookie cutter craft bar but it's superb for the choice of beer Canal House, a staple but it's superb Falcon Inn at Canning Circus, it's like if Wyggeston House was an old man boozer King William IV, another Castle Rock but it's like something out of Kelham Island Then I guess Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem if you've never been/haven't been for a while Edit: A lot of the Castel Rock pubs are interchangeable really, all pretty good so Kean's Head (does stink of curry), Newshouse, Vat & Fiddle, another near the arena all do the same beer. In the evening the Bath Inn is a cracker, it's wall to wall with art deco trinkets.

We still have huge day to day running costs that need to be paid for. Our revenue aside from player sales is going to be low, we’ll still have a very large wage bill for L1, we have two training grounds (one extremely expensive) and a stadium to run. Plus loan repayments. We also need some incoming players, even loans and free rangers will incur some costs. Maguire picks up on the most eye catching numbers ofc but the world works on that premise, would you ever read a news story about the 19th most exciting thing that happened in your area today?

Because if you have too many players who are completely inexperienced or might not be good enough we lose more games than we win. It's a tricky balancing act but actually spending £5m is more prudent if it gets us promoted than spending nothing at all.

My point was less around the specifics, KP have subtly done lots of things historically bad owners have done in a death by a thousand's cuts sort of way. What I was getting at was our owners just haven't really had any sustained negative coverage, Ashley wasn't a good owner but he wasn't as bad for Newcastle as Top has been for us - which stems from our fanbase being so pliant, partially because the media have never really scrutinised how much of a shitshow it is.

If the club was put up for sale 18 months everybody would come out of the deal better off. Top would get probably 50% more for the club, the buyer wouldn't need bags of cash to pay off the debts and fund the working capital.

Nobody is paying £20m for players with a good L1 season under their belts. Their MV would be about £10m at most. Most people are referring to the idea of us not having anything assets left to sell if we don’t go up anyway.

A lot of our fans opinions of their own club are downstream of the media perception. We’re perceived (still are in some quarters) as a well run club - so we must be. Free beers make headlines and amass goodwill but financial irresponsibility doesn’t resonate the same way. Mike Ashley isn’t a good owner but he at least runs a club so it isn’t depend on so called Vampire banks. Rebranding the stadium to the Sports Direct Arena was trashy but it isn’t worse than Top running the club into the ground because of his ego/fecklessness/stupidity. He’s taken us from 5/92 to at best 45/92 next season whilst having our highest profile, highest revenue, best facilities and some of our best ever players. Now we’re on the brink of financial catastrophe but somehow it could be worse?
