I’m not renewing, but probably for different reasons to most. Aside from the practical issue of struggling to get to games these days, I feel disconnected from the fan base as much as the club. I’m also - truth be told - falling out of love with modern football. At the top level anyway. It’s just become a tedious, soulless entertainment product. It’s getting worse every season. I feel like these days we’ve forgotten what it means to be a football fan. Fans are too concerned with the business side of clubs rather than supporting the team of 11 players. I didn’t become a football fan to debate about the nuances of financial sustainability rules or the merits of different staff structures. Being a football fan now is basically just whinging about a company’s HR policies and accounting practices. Next season when I don’t have my ST, I don’t know how much football I’ll actually watch. Probably not a lot.

Lads, if you think we’re getting peak Alex Ferguson, you need to calibrate your expectations a bit.

I heard him on an interview on talkShite after he left Celtic recently, and he was basically pitching himself for a new job. Whether he’d want to come back here is another story, but I think he is exactly the type of leader we need at the moment.

Our fan base doesn’t have the patience for a long term project. First run of bad results and it would be CARRICK OUT!

I actually agree that we have a decent enough squad. I feel the team is lacking in mental strength for whatever reasons. Look at Dyche at Forest, turned them from losing every week to winning every week without changing a thing. Just instilled the right mentality.

But he hasn't had 4/5 class ones though. How is expressing an honest opinion moaning? Grow up.

Err, not really, because I never said that he should be playing.

Let's assume that is true, that our ownership wants us to operate and play like Man City. Is that not a case of our owners 'having a vision', and would fans not lambast the ownership if this was not the case? I simply don't see what's wrong with that. Furthermore, I don't actually agree that our recent managers have tried to play that way.

Or, maybe, just maybe, the decision making by the club management is nowhere near as bad as people make out. We’re in the position we are because of a series of managerial appointments that haven’t really worked. But the market for top managers is extremely difficult. Fans like to whinge at what the club does but usually cant offer any realistic alternative options. Honestly, which managers would fans actually want? The football world has become so brutal that managers lose their reputations incredibly quickly. Consequently, I bet most people couldn’t even pick more than about three managers they’d really want even out of those currently in the PL. And as for those who spout names of random foreigners: 1) We don’t know that the club doesn’t approach any of these people 2) Very often, of our rival teams will employ a random foreigner, and it’s relatively rare that they actually become successful. 3) I suspect in most cases people are being unrealistic about who would actually come. I seem to remember people in the past calling for Jurgen Klopp and Tommy Tuchel! Whilst our past three managerial appointments haven’t worked out, you can’t really fault the logic behind them. * The Forest bloke was seen as a sensible choice at a time when it’s clear our first choice didn’t want to come. He had a demonstrable recent record of turning Forest from utterly woeful to a PL side. Most people thought he was a reasonable appointment, if not particularly appealing. * RvN was seen as a bold, ambitious choice and a long term investment in a young, hungry manager. It didn’t work out, but this is exactly the sort of appointment that many fans call for. The gamble didn’t pay off, but you can’t know until you try. * Cifuentes may be a less logical choice, but at the time there were so few options available, and that’s still the case. Futhermore, several of the managers who fans have been calling for in the past have gone elsewhere and been awful. I really wanted Potter, and he was abysmal at West Ham. Lots of fans wanted Will Still and he was a complete disaster at Southampton. But LCFC fans these days will whinge at anything and everything. I seem to remember that Maresca was only about 50% popular and was disliked by the “FORWARDS, QUICKER” imbeciles. He is probably one of the best managers in the English game today.

There aren't any you daft sods. Honestly, seriously, who is going to come here? And who would you want to come here out of the managers who are realistically available? This is why we've ended up with less favourable appointments the past three times.
