Mads or Okoli for man of the match. I thought the back 4 were decent and all played reasonably well. Two well worked goals from Villa. Midfield were okay, just lacking the spark that Buonanotte provided when he came on. Ndidi not good enough for the 8 or 10 role, solid understudy for Winks is his role now. Vardy offered nothing and was perhaps the lowest rated for me. The three subs really livened things up and offered some genuine sparks of excitement which was encouraging.

To be fair, the window can’t be judged until the end of the season. How many windows have we been excited by or disappointed by, and at the end of the season it looks a whole lot better/worse than we thought. If we get to May and we stay up, and Skipp is player of the season, El Khanouss has provided the assists and Edouard has scored 10+ goals and Okoli has replaced Vestergaard in the starting 11 we look back and say what a great window. Likewise with the players we’ve signed it can all go the other way pretty quickly. All in all still Rudout.

After Villa, we go on a favourable run of fixtures: Palace, Everton, Bournemouth, Southampton, Ipswich and Forest - we should be looking to win 2 or 3 of these at a minimum. Everton at home needs to be a win the way they are playing. Palace away is another winnable game. I want us to have beaten Derby’s points record by the time we go to Old Trafford.

We’re actually starting to play some sexy football. Time to wipe away the pessimism and rip out the we’re gonna win the league…

Really, in the last 10 years we’ve won the league, played in the Champions League 1/4 final and win the FA Cup. I don’t think we’ve had to many actual donkeys in that time, certainly not compared to the years that went before the last 10. We have however, had some talented footballers that have not applied them selfs, and/or severely lacked the motivation to go and do what they are capable of.
