It’s not really luck is it? We won our group, if we didn’t we’d be on the other side of the draw. France didn’t win their group, so have to go on the other side. You make your own luck in the game, and by continually winning qualifying groups and groups at major tournaments, you get easier draws - that’s not luck.

Those stats don’t take into consideration awful positioning as an error leading to a goal. This is the problem with the current obsession with using stats to define anything. I watched every game of that season and whilst he may not have dropped the ball onto a players foot or let a goal through his hands, his positioning and command of his area directly led to goals scored against us.

Bit harsh to say that, he left England when he was 21 after a few decent loan moves. Players develop at different ages, since his loan moves he’s gone on to play international football and play in the Champions League and score a few goals in European competition.
