Brendan really needs to change his tone now I think, the mood around the club is already on it's way to being toxic. He's being asked questions and he's answering them, fair enough... but he's a clever sod and knows how to spin something to the media. Lack of subs, 5 at the back, seemingly negative persona, we need to arrest the slide before things get worse - Rodgers can do it but he needs to act, and fast. Work with the players you have, with the most expensively assembled squad we've ever had, arguably our most talented - and start earning that astronomical wage please Brendan.

His on the ball qualities would be far less magnified if playing as a centre back, I do understand your point though. It's clear as day to me that Wilf doesn't like dropping to give our centre backs an option when on the ball - playing in defence would eradicate the issue as the game would be in front of him.

I agree with you. Perhaps I wasn't clear with what I was trying to say, so apologies - I believe in this system, and under Rodgers' management, he's maybe more suited to a role at CB rather than in midfield. If we're going for a 'control the game' approach.

Doesn't look like it to me, he's venturing forward a lot more than when we originally played the system! Have noticed Maddison having to drop in to cover when he goes forward.

Note I said 'potentially' - what attributes doesn't he have to succeed in the role? Positionally he'd need to adjust, obviously, but aside from that I think it's definitely an option worth exploring.

Unfortunately, it's not that rare with Wilf. Love him but if we persist with the style of football Rodgers wants to play, then Wilf in midfield isn't the answer. It only works when he's left as the destroyer in a 4-1-4-1, much like Rodgers' first season, but we've seen little evidence of that formation coming back anytime soon.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Ndidi is a centre back playing in midfield. We've wasted another pre-season not allowing him to adjust to the position. He's a 'good' CDM, but his passing ability will always hold him back - he could potentially be a world class CB. If we had a CDM who could move the ball with one, two touch then we'd be a different side.

I agree the criticism was harsh however, you've surely got to take Martinelli over Barnes? Looks like he could be a generational talent. The rest? Yeah, I hear you. Barnes is a great player IMO, just for the record.

Can see Wilder playing him in a back 3 at Middlesbrough.

Feels more like a Maddison replacement than Youri, to me at least. Good player though!

Would anyone take Moutinho from Wolves? Just noticed he's out of contract at the end of the season. Might be that older, more experienced head we desperately lack in the middle of the pitch. Would be a shrewd bit of business I feel.

Wouldn't mind Anthony Gordon from Everton if they go down. Ticks a lot of boxes.

Mohamed Camara from Salzburg would be a great signing if we're in the market for a CDM. Get Caqueret from Lyon in as well for £25-30 mil. A KDH - Camara - Caqueret midfield would have unreal energy, and give us much more balance.

I think we need more depth at CM rather than CB. Youri will more than likely leave, as will Praet, and I'm sorry but Soumare hasn't done much to convince me - though obviously we all hope he comes good still. Controversial I know but I'd also be looking to offload Ndidi whilst his stock is still relatively high OR shift him to centre back permanently, we need a more balanced midfield and as good as he is at winning the ball and being a presence, I do think if we had 3 more balanced players in the middle of the pitch we'd look a much better unit. I'd be going all out for Caqueret from Lyon who will be a superstar, Gallagher from Chelsea (probably out of our reach though) and I think I'm in the minority here but I wouldn't mind Normann who's currently at Norwich as back up - always stood out whenever I've watched him, and saw we were linked earlier in the week.

We've got the ideal player on our books already with Praet. Him and KDH as the wide midfielders in a diamond would work really well I think.

He's a quality right back, can play equally as good on the left as well, which is something we tend to look for. Think this may have legs. Would obviously need to sell one of Ricardo or Castagne first.

I've been trying to think of a reply to do this post justice, all I can say is thank you. The bit about going down the off-licence at 10pm for more booze really resonates with me, as does the bit about your kids, I have a daughter who's just turned 4 and she's starting to comment on certain things and is more aware of when I've had a few drinks now. Not good. I'm determined for that can on Saturday night to have been my last, I'll see how it goes. Thanks again, you'll probably never know how important your post is to me, I needed it.
