Positives on the impending Cooper appointment
Ric Flair replied to CrazyKopCorner's topic in Leicester City Forum
Plenty has been said about the confusion over how his style fits in with the obsession our owners have of playing the sort of football Enzo deployed. Cooper can say all he likes about wanting to play possession football but as has been pointed out he played counter attacking football at both Swansea and Forest where for parts of his tenure they'd have been expected to dominate. So I'm not sure if he's kidding himself as much as the public. You can probably find quotes from Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce saying something similar over the years too. I understand in his 1st season in the PL that rhe squad was chaos and he adapted to get the job done but last season if you look at some of the stats it's grim reading. That's with better equipped players on the ball such as Sangare, Reyna, Mangala, Dominguez, Danilo to compliment the likes of Gibbs-White. I think he'll not hesitate to deploy a low block and surrender possession with us. That may well be required for us to be competitive, but it's going to be a huge shift from what we would have seen under Maresca and it's very confusing we've opted for this appointment. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't want us to stay up just for the sake of it playing attritional football and scrabbling about for players. I want to see something I can identify with, I want to see us rebuilt on sensible wages, with young talented players who play an exciting style of football that's flexible and dynamic. If Steve Cooper is part of that vision then good luck to him. I like his credentials from his time at Liverpool and England and he really impressed me at Swansea with the players he improved there. I hope his priority is being brave enough to bring Alves, Braybrooke, Nelson and others in to the 1st team next season. I want to see that belief and he'll get my support if he does. Stranger things have happened, this might be a modicum of success either short term or longer term but right now it does seem odd. -
Who do you want for next season in the PL

Probably the end of Mavididi and Fatawu though, which would be classic Leicester. -
That's quite clear in his goals and assists, quite a poor return so far. I'd rather he was used as an LCB.

If we were to go 3-4-1-2 then he's one of the best strikers to play in a pair I've seen in recent years. Him and Haller at Frankfurt were unplayable. But he is like many strikers we sign, he isn't anywhere near as good as a lone striker. He also needs a big physical striker alongside him (something Cooper has had at Forest) but we don't have one of those either. -
U21 manager?

I doubt they're looking that far ahead on their planning.

I know mate, but if people were happy with Potter they shouldn't have been. But if they still were, then they're well suited to Cooper. Not much in it.

Graham Potter has a worse record in the Championship than Cooper and his 1st two seasons in the Prem weren't much better than the return Cooper got. Potter took a while to build what he built at Brighton, they were pretty vulgar for a fair while. Had two of Europe's best finishers in Gyokores and Undav and didn't have the inclination to coerce such talent out of then. That said Cooper had Gyokores at Swansea too 😂😂😂

If we could sell Faes I'd not be against this.

Quite clearly shows he was the back up choice. What's deeply concerning is there weren't other alternatives to Potter before we resorted to Cooper. I'm less concerned with Cooper's track record than I am the decision making of this club and the future. The appointment of Maresca seemed brave amidst huge pressure and disarray. The way we were being led further came under scrutiny with the financial problems but despite that the vision they had under Enzo maintained a certain standard, putting to one side the concerns in how practical that might be going forward. This appointment just seems ill thought out / bordering on desperation. Maybe the way our club has acted has finally caught up with them. Either way it's concerning. It feels a step back to an ownership and board that I think should consider their futures here. I hope it turns out to be inspired or at the very least a little fortuitous and we benefit from this. Wouldn't be the first time in football. I'm pinning my hopes on his desire to invest his confidence in the 3-4 talented academy players on the cusp of the 1st team amongst others. Other than that I glean no positivity for next season or for my football club in general, it's the lowest ebb.

This evokes a real mix of emotions and confusion. I'm no fan of Graham Potter, he might have a bit more kudos in the PL than Cooper after his slow progression of Brighton really took shape after 3 years but in the first 2 years it wasn't much different in points and general output than what Cooper did under chaotic circumstances at Forest. We need somebody to hit the ground running and perhaps Cooper has more in his track record in that regard, he immediately improved Swansea from Potter in league position and at Forest his run to promotion was ridiculous. But there's a major disconnect with the type of manager Cooper appears to be and what our club seemingly crave or certainly craved when they got Enzo and what we've been told they were looking for in a replacement. I'm all for us being pragmatic where required next season, but that's not an excuse for being dog shit and not playing any football. I like Cooper's track record at England youth level and his development of young players and academy players at both Swansea and Forest. That has to be the priority for me to get on board with this appointment. I actually would rather see the development of Alves, Braybrooke, Nelson, Jake Evans etc than trying to stay up just for the sake of it. I hope he is aligned with our recruitment in the types of players that he can utilise and there's a clear strategy in our financial position with the squad. Wages need to be cut and this squad rebuilt with young talent on sensible salaries, it eases the burden on the necessity of us being a Premier League club for the sake of it.

If Potter is stalling still (despite what some of the press were saying last night) this telegraph article or push by Top and Rudkin to entice Potter in making a decision is possibly at play here. Wouldn't be surprised if we're playing both managers off each other.
-
I hope he's spent the last year studying how to improve his teams ability to score goals. I personally think 3 at the back can stunt goalscoring if you haven't got the right blend of players attacking the box.

Just a bit of harmless fun

Percy ominously quiet, not convinced this is as close as many outlets are making out. Hope not anyway, still want Corberan.
-
I'll message him, I went school with him.
-
Come on guys, many have asked to see consistency throughout the club. We're now seeing over inflated match day ticket prices to go with over inflated wages and everything else.
-
My favourite thing I like is when people type his name wrong and call him Ruskin.
-
This is why we should just prioritise Corberan. He has worked under very tight constraints and this is a great opportunity for him and us. Pay the £4m and be done with it.

Should fit in nicely then -
He has 4 different jobs, 2 of which aren't for LCFC so it would be extraordinary if he wasn't paid for those or were paid for them via LCFC.

We did appoint Maresca this time last year so hopefully history repeats itself.
