My Dad has warned me about the peaty taste of Laphroaig but we’re drinking it tonight anyway I think he’s trying to manage my expectations but if I don’t like it either, he’ll just use it as an expensive mixer with ginger ale. Sounds a bit marmite but hope I love it. I’ll add Islay Mist to the list!!

Apparently it’s a limited edition box for this Xmas/New Year. Enjoy! I think malt whiskey boxes look really cool. Here’s tonight’s Laphroaig

It’s only my first week getting into this properly so I’ve only had the Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich so far! Tonight we open the new Laphroiag 10 and looking forward to how that one tastes. Then I guess after that we need to get some Glenlivet and Macallan! This could become an expensive new hobby!

What I also found interesting is that when drinking my double Glenfiddich 15 and putting the world to rights with my old man last night, I realised it took me over an hour to drink it. Because it's so strong an powerful, I noticed that even the smallest sip lasted a while because the afterglow sits with you for a good few minutes. Decent whiskey really is something to be savored and drank slowly I think to fully appreciate.

I can’t believe in my over 50 years (and about 20 of them drunk) that I didn’t know that. Everyday’s a school day on here.

Nice one Trav, thanks. Not sure I can handle 60% abv stuff though On the subject of water, I've seen one drop, three drops, or an ice cube all suggested. What's your expert view on this mate?

She was my bosses, bosses, boss, back in the day. Met her once around 1992, face like a smacked arse. She lasted a few months then fvcked off somewhere else. She didn’t exactly leave a good impression even back then. I don’t find her at all genuine at this enquiry.

Haha. This is a whole new world of discovery for me. I’m learning on the job

Me and my old man had a long Whiskey discussion last night and he tells me I need to try a 'peaty' whiskey from Islay next. So he's ordered us a Laphroaig 10 for delivery on Thursday. He says he doesn't like them as much as the Speyside/Highland ones but I'm looking forward to finding out for myself

Very, very nice. Found the Glenfiddich slightly harsher than the Glenmorangie but it left a longer/warmer afterglow. Very little in it but I'd maybe favour the Glenmorangie I think. Just a bit more mellow and easy to drink for me. Now I fancy getting some sort of taster set with a dozen or so malts for Christmas to compare them all!

I’ve come to the conclusion that both Usyk and Fury are taking the piss out of all of us. I reckon they’re good mates. Both mad as hatters but getting paid millions by the Saudi’s for this ongoing circus. My bet is a pre agreed Fury win this time around which sets up a ‘convenient’ third fight decider. I’m not usually this cynical but I’ve lost faith in boxing as a sport sadly.

Seems like decent value to me. I’m surprised how good the video/audio quality is so think we’ll probably sign up to this too.

I'd probably cope better tbh. I'd definitely be more productive. This place is great but it's a constant distraction for me. I think a lot of us are addicted to social media in general if we're honest.

Does anybody pay for the Ring doorbell subscription? Set it up today, what a great piece of kit. Comes with 30 day trial and already feel I can't do without the subscription features.

Thanks man. I ended up accepting the substitution of Glenfiddich 15 in the hope it's as good if not better than the out of stock Glenmorangie 12. The Glenfiddich is a bit more expensive but sometimes supermarkets have to give you the next best thing as a substitute i think. Quite looking forward to cracking it open tonight with the old man to taste the difference. He 'made me' compare a cheaper mixer/blended whiskey with the Glenmorangie last week for a laugh and the difference was night and day. The cheap stuff tasted disgusting in comparison which I guess is why people mix it with ginger ale/coke etc. instead of drinking it neat. I'm sure the Glenfiddich will be great and although I don't particularly want to start drinking regularly again, the odd 'night cap' of Glenmorangie last week really helped. Can maybe see myself getting into nice whiskey's at some stage. The history and process of it all is fascinating.

@Countryfox hasn't posted for about 4 months. Knowing him he's probably on another holiday somewhere half way around the world. Fair play.
