My Dad's claim to fame is that he played in a charity golf day and got paired with Benny from Crossroads. Beat that everyone.

World Cups of a Bygone Age (or ones you remember the most)

I remember WC 94 more for the fact we didn't qualify. Did I not like that -

I think a lot of it is down to how old you were and where you were at the time of each WC. For me, I was 17 during Italia 90 and on holiday in Mallorca watching all the games in English bars and having the time of my life. I just think the way England kept scraping through with Platt's goal v Belgium and Lineker's pen v Cameroon felt like it was our time. Agree the final was shite but as Bobby Robson said "I'm not saying we would have won the WC if we'd got to the final, but my house would have been on it" -

Spain 82 was the first WC I remember and I was in awe of that Brazil team. Mexico 86 with the hand of God and all that still hurts. Italia 90 was probably my favourite. We really should have won that. -
Bluesky chief doesn't know age limit for platform The chief executive of the social media network Bluesky - which has exploded in popularity in recent weeks - was unable to give the correct age limit for users on the platform in an interview with the BBC. While speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live's Breakfast programme, Jay Graber wrongly said you needed to be 18 to use Bluesky, when the actual age limit is 13. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c238y83l48jo

My lad is in year 10 and has been in isolation at school today for scrapping yesterday with some year 12's. He's a bit of a 'gentle giant' and it's his first offence, so has luckily avoided suspension. These year 12's nicked his football at break time and then it all kicked off (no pun intended ). One of the year 12's then pinned my lad up against a fence by his neck so he punched him three times in the head in self defense and sent this older kid to A&E (apparently he's a bit bruised but he's O.K.) Now I'm not one to condone violence, but I am feeling a mixed sense of disappointment and pride.

Good to see the personal touch of the festive season is still alive and well

Personally, I'd never buy a Cat S car but as @jgtuksays, sometimes you can get lucky. If I was in your shoes, I'd want to see the pictures of the car after the accident before deciding. Cat S means it was structural damage so that would put me off (Cat N not so much) I'd also want to know who it was 'fully repaired' by and ask for copies of the invoices and work they did. Unless the repairs were minor and done by a main dealer of the brand or an authorized specialist independent, I'd steer clear.

I'm really not sure what to do anymore when it comes to sending Christmas cards. I still get them from the older generation but the young uns don't seem to bother these days. And at about £2 a stamp it's not cheap these days. Just feels like the tradition of sending Christmas cards is dying a slow death.

Back in about 1997 I was managing an out of town electrical retail superstore in Hull. One evening just before we closed, a big Jaaaagggg pulled up outside and in walked John Prescott and his wife. He had bags under his eyes the size of suitcases, he looked absolutely knackered. His wife had the biggest fur coat on that I'd ever seen, you could smell the money on her. Expecting them to spend a few grand on a new TV or something, imagine my disappointment when all they purchased was a £9.99 four way plug adaptor

That all reads very familiar and that was me just over 20 years ago. Sounds like you're in your 'survival' brain constantly, and under stress, we run excessive adrenaline and cortisol. Too much cortisol can cause inflammation (in my case, the gut) which can ultimately lead to severe burnout and in my case, emergency surgery. Our 'threat' response is fight, flight, or freeze and you feeling 'trapped' is a typical freeze response - feeling stuck. The good news is that you're talking about it on here and my downfall was bottling up all the pressure and telling everyone I was fine when I wasn't. The stress literally ate me up inside. My advice FWIW is to talk to your wife and your boss about it. You can't be an effective employee or a caring husband and father if you're up in the night worrying and wilting under the stress. I was too scared to ask for help through fear of looking weak and losing my job but it ended up costing me my health. Please don't go down the same road that I did.

Keep telling yourself this over and over again, like a mantra. The more you say it, the more it'll register in your subconscious. Thoughts become things...

There's absolute uproar amongst our slipper wearing, golf playing, dad joking, thongs in the glove box, Jaaaaagggg community.

Heard this on the wireless recently and it obviously passed me by first time around. But what a tune, could be my new Karaoke favorite

Had an interesting discussion with my 18 year old daughter about the hierarchy of swear words/insults earlier. Last night she was cleaning her teeth in the bathroom and left the door wide open. I walked in to get something out of the cupboard and she kicked off at me. I replied "well if you want privacy, lock the door you dick head!" Now in my world, calling someone a dick head is a mild insult and not much worse than calling someone an idiot or a Muppet (was it Jasper Carrott who invented dick head? If so, it was all in jest and not that serious) So imagine my surprise when she responded with "DON'T CALL ME A DICK HEAD YOU FVCKING CVNT!!!" It must be a generational thing because I wouldn't dream of saying that to my parents but apparently calling someone a cvnt is the norm now

1) Yes, if it gives us an advantage 2) Yes. Do your vastly overpaid job properly. 3) No. It's just a job to them. 4) Yes. Especially Bruno Fernandes
