1) Choudhury played well. Could possibly be a good understudy for Ndidi next season. 2) Possession football with no attacking urgency doesn’t get results. 3) Puel has steered so far from our previous counter attacking, direct style of play. Possession should have been another cog in the machine, not a replacement for an effective model our club has built foundations around for years. We can still beat parked buses playing our previous style, as proven in the second half of 15/16 and also Shakespeare’s run in 16/17. 4) Realistically, what are the solutions we need in order for Puel’s philosophy to work? New signings? Imo we’d need 5 new first team players: RB, CB, LB, Mahrez replacement and a number 10. So for Puel’s philosophy to work all these players need to settle, gel with the squad, buy into Puel’s style and make an immediate impact if we want to progress next year. 5) Overall, if we persist with Puel I think we’re more likely to be in a relegation battle next season instead of pushing for Europe.

Newcastle are fighting for every ball, working as a team, leaving everything on the pitch. I miss when we used to be like that. -

Honestly I’m worried about the direction we’re going in... Imagine trying to play this possession based style in a relegation battle.. We’d be fuched. I’ve said it before but we’re barely any better at keeping possession than Bournemouth. Even with reinforcements in the summer, Puel’s philosophy is turning us into a shitty Arsenal like Bournemouth. Our previous style of play made us unique and was effective. -

We are not compact at all and haven't been for a while under Puel. Where is our shape defensively? This sideway and backwards passing and playing it from defence inevitably leads to us losing possession and then teams can exploit the gaps between our midfield and defence. -

Form table in 2018: 1. Spurs 2. Man City 3. Liverpool 4. Man Utd 5. Bournemouth 6. Leicester -
Very true. Do you not think we need a back up GK and another ball winner like Ndidi? Silva, Iborra and James aren’t great ball winners so if Ndidi got a long term injury we’d suffer. Also if we get in the Europa we’ll have more fixtures and need to rest Wilf anyway.
-
Agree with most of this. But isn’t Fuchs going to America in the summer and isn’t Dragovic unhappy? Would be happy to keep both of them for another season though. Imo we also need a better 2nd choice keeper than Hamer and another ball winner like Ndidi.

Schmeichel Amartey, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell Diabate, Silva, Iborra, Gray Mahrez Vardy Diabate, Mahrez & Gray interchanging. I know Gray is usually shite but he got an assist so he should be given a chance to improve on that. Diabate starting is a no brainer for me and with Silva/Mahrez in the central areas we might actually see some intelligent movement in the final third. Very weak defensively because of Ndidi’s suspension but Newcastle will be camped in their own half all game.

Kasper saved a free kick!! What a guy

We’re basically Bournemouth, with this style of play.
-
We also had Drinkwater and Kante supplying them. Two, direct thinking midfielders who’s first thought was can we get the ball up the pitch. We’ve replaced that with Ndidi who can barely pass and Iborra who’s so slow he makes Glenn Murray look quick.
-
Iborra - On the ball he can only pass five yards and most of the time it’s sideways or backwards. I’ve only seen one defence splitting pass from him against Liverpool away for Vardy’s goal. What does he do off the ball? He’s too slow to make any challenges or pressure the opposition, which compromises our back four as he usually plays deeper than Ndidi. We now have a snail paced, sideways passing merchant (Iborra) and a center mid thats so weak the wind could blow him over (Silva). The lack of tempo is frightening and Iborra is part of that problem. Willing to give Silva more time, but Iborra’s style of play just doesn’t work for us imo.

Thank god the rest of the league is poor

This slow possession based style has made us bang average

With Iheanacho injured it’s the perfect game to start Diabate behind Vardy. Also I’d have one of Barnes or Thomas on the bench.

Along with Shakey and Pearson

Could Elliot Moore have a chance of making the squad next season? Playing at a better level than Hughes/Knight and seems to be doing well.

Benalouane is starting for Tunisia. Their game will probs be more entertaining then this -
Kenneth Zohore at Cardiff? A physical beast with pace, work rate and hold up play like Heskey. Got potential to be a good PL striker.

Thoughts on January signing Fousseni Diabate?

Saw on Alex Iwobi’s snapchat him and Iheanacho were having a midnight feast of pringles and burgers. No wonder they’re both muck.
