The last Burnley goal chalked off ... everything that is wrong with VAR. VAR didn't have to ruin watching the football. It could have been used only to correct significant errors that replay made obvious, and where changes proved necessary, improved. But almost every change has made it worse in terms of delays, obfuscation and outright mistakes, which should NEVER happen with video review. PGMOL and the PL have managed VAR as well as Top and Rudkin manage a football club.

The home side in middling form lately, but still challenging for an automatic spot. I don't have much to say about this, except I expect to add three points to their tally. But why not start a pre-match thread before I fade out of here.

I’ve always enjoyed the Winter Olympics more. Way more exciting. I don’t watch nearly as much of the summer games. Partly because there’s nothing else to do at that time of year? Or (as finally realized) these athletes can kill or seriously hurt themselves in the majority of winter events. Perhaps it’s the sicko in me! p.s. or maybe it’s just fun watching a country the size of Norway destroy the civilized world like their Viking ancestors.

It's on! Canada somewhat heavy favorites (-135) and I would see this as a free hit, if they had played to their potential so far in this tournament. NBC hyping the game to the skies, preceding it with a replay of the Miracle On Ice. The whole country watched that game. But I doubt a great many people south of the International Boundary have gotten up early to watch this one. Hopefully this will be the only time we ever play when the two countries are in a state of cold war!
