  1. I saw him score the winner at Notts County in a game around 1980, but generally he was overshadowed by the other youngsters: Buchanan, Lineker, Peake

    Daka

Every time I see there's a new comment on this thread I go to It, hoping to see that he's been sold, only to be disappointed.
  3. It was ironic that Speedie formed a great forward pairing with Steve Walsh
  4. Conor, you need to replace the word "started" with "injured"
  5. To try and be positive. Chelsea had a transfer ban (for 2 windows, I think) a few years ago, when Frank Lampard took over. Despite that, he greatly improved them, qualifying for the CL. Hopefully Cifuentes will be great success (like Maresca).

    Daka

One year ago someone posted "Please sign another centre forward, I can´t bear the thought of 38 games watching the ball bounce off Daka" The sad thing is that nothing has changed (except for Cannon leaving and Ayew replacing Vardy)
  7. Yes, as it stands, I would choose those 11 players, but in a 4-4-2 with Bilal in a free role off Ayew
  8. Just been reading about Afcon 25, in December-January. If selected, BEK, Daka and Ndidi will be away for up to a month.
  9. I think the fans of a number of clubs (Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham etc.) are still bitter that we won the league (and FA Cup). They still say we were lucky, only winning the league because the "better" teams had poor seasons. As pointed out in another comment, many fans of other clubs think it was a disgrace to sack Ranieri, but the reality was that he may well have got us relegated.
  10. I only saw him "in action" on the pitch, against Shrewsbury in a League Cup game.
  11. He used to drive me nuts - he could be fantastic one minute (e.g. the free kick against Forest) and shocking the next. In that way he was like Ian Banks.
  12. This coming season you can watch it 23 times in the pre-match video, assuming they don´t delete it to make room for last season´s great moments
  13. Oops, didn´t see the previous post! I had to check the spelling before posting, hence the delay
  14. What about Željko Kalac? He got Palace rattled at Wembley
  15. Post-horn Gallop, When You´re Smiling and the pre-match video. I used to like the HT cross-bar challenge - I remember Kasabian were pretty good at that
  16. At Highbury (I don´t know when it started), the Arsenal fans used to sing "We´re the North Bank over ere", "We´re the Clock End over ere"
  17. If he has a business degree, perhaps he should be running the club as well as being captain
  18. Sorry about that, but I saw the opportunity and pounced like Jamie Vardy
  19. Bearing in mind the name of his assistant, I hope we keep Calm and carry on
  20. Nice one, although not an "Automatic" choice What about: Let´s all do the Monga Let´s all do the Monga Na na na na hey Na na na na hey
  21. This rule was trialled in England a few years ago and worked very well (much less arguing with the ref)?. However UEFA thought it wouldn´t be enforceable in other countries and so it was abandoned here. I think when it happened close to the penalty area the free kick could only be advanced to the line. Another new rule that disappeared was no offside from free kicks. I think it was trialled in the Conference but flopped.
  22. Two years ago the club did very well in the summer, getting in a new management team and securing 3 major signings early on. Hopefully they can do something similar now (after this delay!). However if the team for the first game includes Daka and others who are not popular with the fans and/or are not good enough, then the fans´ enthusiasm might disappear very quickly.
  23. When you realise that a player is not good enough for the level you need, you get rid ASAP. That was Clough´s philosophy. Easier said than done perhaps and it´s now too late in Ward´s case. In the case of Daka, I would let go on a free now or pay him off and let him find a new club as he´s not even top-half Championship level. Politicians have to face elections every 4-5 years, unlike club owners/managers/coaches.
  24. The BBC Football report states that his only first team appearance for Wrexham before signing for Liverpool was in a 2-1 defeat against Airbus UK. Sums it up really. To be fair, like Daka and others, it´s not his fault he´s not good enough to play for us, it´s the fault of those who decided to buy him and couldn´t improve him once he was here.
  25. Perhaps Top is "Making Plans For Nigel"
