Burton Albion (Carabao Cup) A Match Thread
WilmslowFox replied to urban.spaceman's topic in Leicester City Forum
Hamza has to play, and I'd start Chilwell and Perez to give them a chance to build on the confidence boost of Friday's game. Otherwise don't really mind who plays, but it would be nice to see one or two of the development squad on the bench (e.g. Calvin, Darnell, Kiernan or one of the Georges). -
Not wanting to further belittle your efforts, but the lad is only ten years old, and has already watched the Foxes at 8 grounds: KP Burnley Cardiff Everton Liverpool Man City Man Utd Swansea To be fair, the away grounds in the North West are nearer to us than KP.
-
Hopefully not in the same way that Arsenal & Man Utd went full bore last night.
-
And there I was just thinking that if we win this and Man City lose then we'll go 2nd.
-
No "youngsters" in the squad. Understandable given that there are senior players yet to see game-time this season, but its a shame as this is the sort of game where they can make an appearance from the bench and gain some competitive first team experience.
-
I expect they'll come pouring in now.

England v Bulgaria - Wembley Sat @ 5pm (ITV)
WilmslowFox replied to davieG's topic in Leicester City Forum
Was at the match on Saturday - we were practically pitch-side and the lad was really excited to have a great view of Maddison's England debut. There to support England, so we cheered all the players (even Spuds) as they ran through the starting eleven before kick-off, but I swear that the response when Barkley's name was announced was more of a mass "huh?" than a cheer. What a wasted opportunity. We did the Wembley Stadium tour on Sunday morning (not as good as the King Power tour obv), and the lad sat on each of the home substitute seats so that he had sat in the same place where Chilwell/Maddison had been a few hours before. Confused the people in front of him having their pictures taken sat in the Manager's seat. Asked if he wanted me to take a picture of him coming out of the players tunnel, he said I could take one in 15 years when he comes through it as Leicester captain. -
...and now have the opportunity to knock them out of the Europa League too - they've been drawn in the same group.

ENGLAND: James Maddison named in squad
WilmslowFox replied to UpTheLeagueFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
Was more surprised to see Chilwell included, given that he's missed the three games leading up to the squad announcement. Will be at Wembley for the Bulgaria game, so hoping to see two Foxes playing for England in a competitive match - wish Maguire had still been here to make it three (but... we don't need you, we've got Soyuncu). -
The fate of Bury and Bolton- could we/should we help?
WilmslowFox replied to brisfox's topic in Leicester City Forum
This. I'm sure some sort of crowd funding will start soon (if it hasn't already) to help a phoenix Bury club to get up and running. I liked the idea of offering them a friendly match that someone mentioned too. I'm sure there will be other demonstrations of solidarity, such as banners at games. Is there anything to stop our players warming up pre-match in Bury kit rather than usual training kit? -
Never really got much of a chance with us to be fair. Too big a player to be sitting on the bench playing understudy to Vardy. Most he played was in the 2017/18 League Cup where I think he was top scorer in the competition until he got dropped for the QF which we lost. Will probably do well reunited with his old Sporting manager at Monaco. Good luck to him.

Was in Barcelona when this was posted. Was no storm there either, but did enjoy watching Maitland-Niles back-pass into his own net during a pre-season friendly at Camp Nou.

I know this flies in the face of football's tribal qualities, but which PL footballers that have not played for the Foxes do you consider decent? This is not meant as a transfer thread where we name players we would like to sign, so much as pointing out those players whose actions or general demeanour seem worthy of respect. This question was prompted by the lad attending a summer holiday club in south Manchester called "The Wes Brown Football Academy". I'd assumed that Wes Brown had allowed his name to be used in return for some sponsorship money and would have little, if anything, to do with the holiday club. Surprisingly he has been there in person every day throughout the summer, and has nicknamed the lad "Vardy" on account of his various Leicester kits. Wes Brown was never someone I had much time for, but I have a lot of respect for him now.

I don't see these two as contradictory. I think that the move will strengthen Man Utd more than it will weaken us, and since we are looking to challenge them this season, its only right that we hold out for big money.
-
*If* Harry were to go, and *if* we were to buy a replacement CB, I would be tempted to raid a team recently relegated to championship (as we did signing both Maguire and Evans) and get Alfie Mawson from Fulham. Truth be told, I'd rather use the funds to strengthen other positions within the squad though. The asking prices of Maguire and Zaha seem coincidentally similar.

2019/20 Under 23's, U19's, Development ... thread
WilmslowFox replied to a topic in Leicester City Forum
Been wondering that. Last pre-season he was one of the better performers in a makeshift first team that was missing numerous players who'd featured at the World Cup. This pre-season I don't think he travelled to the Evian training camp, hasn't featured in pre-season squads, and doesn't even seem to be making the bench for the U23s. Not seen anything about him being released or loaned out either. -
I'm sure McMaguire is not that precious about it. Then again I hear that "precious" is a quality that OGS finds very appealing, but what does he have in his pocketses? It had better be the asking price or he can forget about his precious and skulk off back to his cave.
-
Had been wondering about this. Around the time we signed Maguire, Mawson looked like a reasonable alternative (strong in defence but can contribute to the attack, leader on the pitch having captained England U23s). Its amazing how differently their respective careers have played out, with Maguire now an England regular having top 6 clubs offering silly money, and Mawson having been relegated from PL two seasons running with different clubs and dropping off the radar. If Maguire were to go then I would rather pick up Mawson for 10-12M than Dunk for 40-50M, as I'm sure there is still potential there.

Have tickets to see England v Bulgaria at Wembley in a couple of months, and am looking forward to possibly seeing a competitive international with three Foxes on the field for England (surely it is time for Maddison to join Maguire & Chilwell). This fabulous statement of Leicester's new standing in the English game would be totally undermined were we to sell those players to the very teams we are trying to challenge for a place in the top six. Yes, we have plenty of cover with Evans, Benkovic, Soyuncu, Morgan, Amartey (and not forgetting that the CBs are the standout players in the U23 squad too), but that's not the point - the move might not especially weaken us, but do we really want to be strengthening the United squad?
-
Ironic that any chance Slimani might've had to impress Rodgers in pre-season, and salvage his Leicester career, has been scuppered by Algeria's AFCON success. Doubt that he will be able to join the squad much before the start of the season now, and probably not at all assuming a loan can be arranged before the window closes. Shame really, I know the stories of "personality clashes" with the rest of the squad, but he was prolific in the League Cup a couple of seasons ago, and we only got knocked out when he was dropped from the team in the quarter final. Even now would be happier to have Slimani on the bench than Nacho.

vardy is on tomorrow nights gogglebox!
WilmslowFox replied to Shamomoa's topic in Leicester City Forum
okay, so i admit it. i endured gogglebox last week to see if vardy would chat sh*t. it was a long time before he appeared - the vardys were watching countdown and it turns out that he is good at the numbers round, and also seemingly the only celebrity who understands basic maths. i gave up watching after that, so i don't know if he was in it much more. won't be watching again.
