I genuinely think Mavidi, Vardy and Fatawu will be a lethal front three in the PL in a more counter attacking team. Whenever we played a more open team Mavididi in particular would go up a gear. Towards the end of Forest's first season in the PL Cooper had Forest playing some decent counter attacking football and they got decent results off some tough fixtures.

It's not just his position, he looks a different player technically now. At Leicester he never looked fully in control when he dribbled and was rarely able to take players on whereas now the ball looks like it's glued to his feet. Something has to be wrong with our coaching for there to have been this big of a transformation in only a season away.

Not like we benefited from that hot young talent tbf. All our best players are still at the club this season and we have Will Alves, Baybrooked and Nelson breaking through who will progress massively under Cooper. Remember Cooper made Rian Brewster look like a 20 mil player from his time in the u17s and at Swansea.

Maybe Bologna actually arent skimming us but are simply offering what his real value as a player is.

That's the championship though isnt it. If we're comparing like for like Cooper walked into a Forest that had won 1 and drawn 1 in their last 8 games to start the season, then proceeded to win 22 draw 11 and lose 6 in the next 38 games which is similar to Maresca's championship record with a far worse squad. At the end of the day a lot of the gloss that gives managers their reputations comes from the players at their disposal compared to the quality of the opposition players. Ranieri was woeful at Watford yet give him prime Vardy, Kante and Mahrez and you can get 80 points. As far as I'm concerned Graham Potter having a 32% win rate with Chelsea is far worse than Cooper having a 22% win rate with Forest. If you look at that Forest squad a 38 point season is not far off the best you would expect from them.

Potter had the backing of Brighton who are a well run club. Cooper had the backing of Forest and their crackpot owner. Potter had multiple elite level players at his disposal, world cup winner McAllister, PL record transfer Caicedo, Pascal Gross, Lewis Dunk, Ben White, Lamptey, Cucurella, Lallana, Trossard etc just to finish 15th, 16th and 9th. Cooper had Morgan Gibbs White and Brennan Johnson, otherwise he had a load of players who arent good enough to get decent results with.

I have a feeling a lot of people our going to get mud on their face when he turns out to be a decent manager for us.

O'hare, Dwomoh and Gabriel Pereira as our signings would probably give me a bigger meltdown than everyone freaking out over Cooper.

This, I would have preferred Corberan but I am just happy that we haven't signed Potter, AKA Brendan Rodgers V2. Potter would have most likely been an unmitigated disaster for the club considering he would join us with one foot out of the door already.

Forest are nowhere near as bad as they were when Cooper came in. When Cooper joined Forest were bottom of the Championship, two year later and he had got them promoted and kept them up in the PL. Pete Taylor on the other hand had only ever managed in league one before us. Potter turning Brighton into a side 'that can challenge in the top half' after 3 seasons isn't as much of an achievement as you think it is, especially as he had world cup winner Mcallister and English record transfer fee Caicedo in his ranks among other top players. Soon after he turned Chelsea into a side competing in the bottom half so interpret that as you will.

He got 38 points, that keeps you up most seasons. The narrative around Cooper and Potter is so strange to me, Potter had Brighton with a similar win rate to Cooper for most of his tenure and managed to improve towards the end. How has Potter managed to convince the footballing world that he's a top class manager whilst Cooper, who has an impressive resume, is seen as a chancer?

I dont understand some posters on here. Many of them were as sick as I was of how Rodgers treated the club yet they desperately want Potter who has turned the club down multiple times now. Potter doesnt have a significantly better CV than Cooper, he plays slow, safe, uninspiring football and he's pompous and arrogant. Moving on from Potter and going for Cooper is one of the better decisions this club have made in recent memory.

Potter had a couple months of European level form with European level players (Caicedo, Mcallister) followed by a failed move to Chelsea and that's enough to make our fans think he is the second coming. We would do well to listen to Brighton and Chelsea fans when they say he is not all that he is made out to be.

The way Forest spent the money arguably made the squad worse to manage than when they were in the championship. How are you supposed to manage a squad when you have 40 players?

Potter's win ratio for Brighton in his first 2 seasons was 24%, it only started to get better in his 3rd season in the PL. Yet for some reason our fans are creaming themselves over Potter. For me staying up in the PL with that disaster of a squad he had at Forest was an achievement and not something to bash him with.

Can someone please explain what people dont like about Cooper other than he is unnactractive and an ex Forest manager? He took Forest from the bottom of the championship to staying up in the PL and he battered us and Arsenal in the FA cup along the way. Under ownership that doesnt buy 30 players a season I can see him being a good manager for us. If he can get us playing the same way Forest were when they beat us 4-1 we'll be laughing.

That's where the confusion is then. Corberan didnt take over as a manager who was expected to reach the playoffs, he took over when West Brom were in the relegation zone. That's why he's so highly rated, West Brom were seriously mismanaged after being relegated from the PL and were looking down the barrel of a second relegation when he came in. Compared to the other teams in the playoffs, West Brom's squad are by far the worst in my opinion. It's like if Fulham managed to get into an FA cup semi final with Man City, just because they are there doesnt mean they have an equal chance to win and it's an achievement for them to even get there. The only reason they're in contention for promotion and not near the bottom of the table is Corberan and most West Brom fans would agree. It's not like it's a fluke either, Corberan took over a Huddersfiels side that had just survived relegation to league 1 and took them to the playoffs. Since he left they have returned to championship mediocrity again.

Steve Bruce has experience at the top level but Maresca and McKenna dont, I know who I would prefer to be my manager. The important thing for me is that West Brom fans love Corberan, none of the Swansea, Brighton or Chelsea fans rate Potter nearly as highly as the media/our fans do. At the end of the day his style is slow negative football, moreso than Maresca. I hope Potter does well but he seems to very much be of the Brendan Rodgers/Russell Martin archetype of manager that I am not a fan of personally.

Rodon is a clear example of a player who is great in the championship but not good enough in the PL. There are plenty of players who will be cheaper and better.

If we sell dewbury hall and buy longstaff for 15 mil then that would be a terrible decision. Thankfully that probably wont happen.

After weeks of tough negotiating Rudkin has managed to reduce Potter's wage demands from 7 mil a year to 6 mil a year. Win in the book for Rudkin. A few months down the line after a win on the first day of the season Potter threatens to leave for Man United, followed by Rudkin rewarding Potter with a new contract at double the wages to fend off any suitors.

Man city have a decent sell on fee so getting money isnt that valuable. McKennie was really good last season so it saves them having to replace him with another midfielder.

Cooper got into the playoffs twice with Swansea, then went on to do the same and win them with Forest who were in disarray before he came. I would argue that his success was unlikely to be down to Potter due to his consistency across both clubs. Out of the three I would prefer Coberan > Cooper > Potter. I have a bad feeling that Potter would be a disaster here, he's very much a possession for possession's sake manager, more so than Maresca. He also seems to have climbed the ranks of English football through reputation and playing 'the right way' rather than performing well at the clubs he has been at.
