Development/Youth Squads 2024/2025 Thread - U18/U21

Winks is good on the ball but not good enough defensively. Skipp is ok on the ball and ok defensively but if you add it all up you dont get a PL level player. Ndidi is good defensively and bad on the ball. If this lad is both good on the ball and good defensively then he's worth picking up, a well rounded DM would do wonders for this team.

Rodgers, Smith and Maresca couldn't play him because of the ACL (Maresca probs could have played him last game of last season) or being too young in Rodgers case. Cooper is the only one to have him available and ready and choose to not play him. -

I've found Buonanotte very frustrating recently. After being our best player at the start he's now trying to dribble by himself too much and it's making him one of our worst. Hopefully he can gain some confidence back in the rest of the team and stop trying to take on the world. -
You have to factor in that Vardy has been struggling with an issue with his hip since 2020 which is arguably down to his age. That's almost half his top flight career where he's been in and out of the team and had to push through it when it was acting up. If he was 5 years younger and you put him in the exact same situation without any additional seasons he would probably have 50 extra PL goals alone since 2020, especially if you consider that we dont get relegated with a fit Vardy in the team.

Were you sat on the same row as me? Felt like i was standing for more of the game than i was sitting and it was usually the same guys going past. I just assumed they must have had the bladders of a 2 year old.

Leaving early on a weekday at the end is understandable but what is up with people going in for beer and food 40 minutes in? Final 5 minutes of one of the biggest halves of our season and the stands were emptying out.

Long term partner for Okoli. Faes and Okoli are birds of a feather, decent defensive attributes but will fall asleep and pass the ball straight to the opposition. If we are to stay in this league we need those two to be bench options at best.

I think he stopped a lot more attacks the other night than he let through. Considering how much stick he gets for losing his runner (I am guilty of this as well), lets give him some praise for the way he put his all in to stopping attackers from getting past him last night.

Don't think there has been a debate since 2020 when he hit the 100 PL goal mark and won the golden boot to be honest. A couple others have more goals than him for us but his overall career with us is far better than any player we've had before him.

5 goals 2 assists with minimal service all season as well.

Moroccan zidane. I said he will be our best and most improved player under Ruud but even despite that I was surprised with how good he was today, should have gotten 3 assists. Already kissing the badge, let's hope he meant it. -
Arguably the best player in the world this season. If we need scouts at the game to determine whether this guy is worth buying or not we really are screwed.

I think we would all be relatively happy with Skipp if he was bought for £5mil. He's decent enough and can do a job as a rotation player. Even for that price maybe you would look for a player with a higher ceiling than him. For example you can get someone like Lennon Miller for £5mil. Us spending £20mil and not getting a player who is definitely good enough to start at PL level in the position we were in this summer is ludicrous, it really is. Add in the fact that this sort of business (spending large amounts on mediocrity) has been our transfer strategy since 2019 and there really should have been some senior people at this club sacked by now. There were a few exceptions like Fatawu and Fofana but even then we spent a lot of money on them. I just wish we would go back to our old strategy of buying low and selling high. -

Does anyone else feel that looking at the money we've spent on players over the last few years and the quality of the squad right now that they could do a better job at recruitment than the club has done? It barely seems professional the way the club has been run looking at the players we have at our disposal and the quality of players you can find with about 20 minutes of research that are available on the market for cheaper prices than we bought our players. -

I dont get it but that's hilarious. -
Lennon Miller at Motherwell. 18 years old. Apparently available for £5mil in January and is already twice the player Oliver Skipp is for 1/4 the fee. Shows how poor our scouting department has been recently.
-
Cooper spent over £50mil in the summer. He could have easily replaced Faes if he wanted, Faes being a starter at this point in the season is partly down to him.
-
Yes we also need a better midfield but it works both ways, the defence is also to help support the midfield. What are Ndidi and Soumare supposed to do when Faes dozes off and marks Vestergaard's man like he did for the 3rd goal?
-
2026 isnt it? Please God it's 2026.
-
His contact runs out at the end of next season, his book value should be around £7mil in January. Hopefully there is someone who will buy for that.
-
No Coady please. Defenders are supposed to be able to defend first and foremost, not sure leadership means anything when we concede every time the opponent attacks with Coady on the pitch.

We spent £15million pounds on Faes, £11 mil on Okoli, £8mil on Coady, £20mil on Soumare, £20mil on Skipp. There are many clubs that are competitive in Europe whose record signing is £20mil or lower ie. PSV, Sporting. These teams are not spending more than we are. We dont have a budget issue, we outspend most clubs in Europe. We just spend our money poorly, our issue is that we need to change our transfer strategy. Look at the best teams in Europe that are not in the PL and see what works for them and what £20mil gets them. -
At least the squad is so bad that if we do it right replacing them with better players shouldnt even cost that much. Genuinely think you could improve every position in that backline for a total of £30mil.
-
We were actually considering signing Theate in the summer as well. Joke of a club.
