  1. To be pedantic maroon rather than burgundy
  2. The sun would be OK if the temperature did not go above about 23c. Noel Coward was right in his song Mad Dogs
  3. Quarterlight I think they were called
  4. In my late 60s now. Started losing it in early 20s. Obviously this was not what I wanted to think about. I was very lucky that my wife didn't mind one bit and always supportive. I realised that having a good hair cut and looking as good as you can and learning acceptance was the way to go. Good luck to any young out there struggling with confidence. You can still be a vibrant person. If you get any negative remarks just remind yourself they are a holes
  5. Horrible then and Horrible now
  6. Yes. The desks looked old even back in the 60s and early 70s
  7. Whoever we get looking at player contracts a period of stability vital and this time next year very interesting as some of the players most criticised time up assuming we can't get rid for money before
  8. Don loved Cherry Cherry by Neil Diamond which was produced by Jeff Barry. Jeff's then wife and also a songwriting genius Ellie Greenwich had discovered Neil Diamond at a recording session in New York. Don asked Jeff if Neil had anything he could use for his new band The Monkees. Of course this led to Diamond's I'm a Believer becoming a smash. Another Diamond song A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You also did well.
  9. Your point about the mouse reminded me. At work I was used to using the mouse with the right hand and that was fine. In fact it was useful as I could use my scribble pad to write notes at same time when talking to customers on the phone headset. If I set a table I automatically set as a lefty. We are special you know!
  10. We had to use fountain pens at school. Ballpoint not allowed. Something of a nightmare if you are a southpaw like me. Despite using blotting paper I always smudged the writing with the ink transferred to the side of the left hand. What a mess.
  11. As a kid loved Airfix. Also a big fan of the comics Commando, Battle Picture Library, AirAce and so on.
  12. A very big question. One of the things which I regret is the demise of provision of decent council housing to people that need it. When I got engaged to be married we went on the council housing list and we got a flat in quick time. When we had a child we were allocated a house. All this provided millions of people secure good quality homes at a rent that folk in ordinary jobs could afford. That the provision is greatly reduced has undermined the security and health of too many in our country.
  13. I am the walrus
  14. I'm probably one of those odd people that have never gone abroad seeking the sun.
  15. I tend to think the latter half of your statement is accurate
  16. Agreed. I grew up on a council estate in the 60s and the vast majority of people took a pride in their surroundings and this was instilled in the kids. Somehow this care and attitude has been forgotten
  17. Exactly this. These morons see it as a sign of weakness to dispose of their rubbish properly. No excuse for it
  18. A pathetic lack of security. I thought this sort of base should be guarded by the RAF Regiment.
  19. I hate all this mindless behaviour. You don't have to go far to find examples of gormless idiots and detritus they leave behind.
  20. One thing I miss since retirement is the office air-conditioning. A good 8 hours a day relief from being too hot
  21. Magpie visits our 2 bird baths. Has a bathe in the bigger one. Gets stale bread from somewhere, pops into the smaller bird bath gives it a good soak. Has a drink and eats the bread. Very smart looking bird the Magpie almost looks like he has dressed for the occasion so I'm honoured our establishment is up to scratch. Either that or desperate.
  22. You made the point about Pakistani grooming gangs being described as Asian. I was using a comparison that the press would never describe English football hooligans as general as British
  23. Nice to learn of the good for a change
  24. The 3 point safety belt whose patent was owned by Volvo was given free of charge to other manufacturers thereby advancing the safety of millions
  25. The point being that if the specifics are known don't generalise to include others that largely are not involved.
