For center-backs we should be looking at Mees Hilgers or Arouna Sangante. Hilgers definitely has potential for the ball playing defender we’re looking for and Sangante reminds me a bit of a more aggressive Fofana.

I think the sales of Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi clubs likely impacted their decision to go all in for Caicedo. If Jude actually wanted to go Liverpool (I think he was more interested in Madrid after the ‘22 UCL final) and the Saudi sales were done earlier in the window / if Liverpool could see them coming, then he would have gone to Liverpool. Just unfortunate timing for them.

The market is completely ****ed. £110m for Caicedo is mental.

One of my main concerns is who depth for Ricardo’s position is with his injury history. Nobody else has the same sort of profile. Need to be defensively decent, bit of pace, and tidy on the ball. Maybe JJ? But see above concern re-injuries.

Play by play is fine, but the bloke doing commentary is annoying me. Stolarczyk isn’t scuffing clearances or being risky. He’s clearly playing out of the back, and doing so decently, way better than Ward or Iversen have ever done.

Grealish and Barnes are completely different players who offer different things, they're not competing for the same spot. Barnes is competing with Rashford, who does what Barnes does several times better. About the only thing Barnes is good at is the give and go and finishing from cut-ins.

It’s not known though is it? I reckon Rodgers left Fofana out because his head’s not in the right place. Which it’s bound to if he is under the impression that he could have to move halfway across the country in a week. That doesn’t mean Fofana is refusing to play, it means he’s human and his ability to play is simply being affected by all this drama surrounding his possible move, being fueled by agents, Chelsea, fans, and apparently every other person on Twitter. It can’t be easy.

I know we hate Ben Jacobs but I find his most recent tweet - saying that Fofana hasn’t refused to play, but that he isn’t in the right headspace with all this going on - seems possible to me. However, I’m probably just at the bargaining stage of grief.

Reportedly 6 year contract too. £71 million on a lad who while very good is still a bit raw and has had some injury issues. Not to mention double that and more for the transfer fee!

Wouldn’t blame the board if they threw out Congerton’s suggestions. Very hit or miss imo. But yes, that would be poor planning from the board.
