Might be an unpopular opinion but if I was Newcastle or Man United I definitely would have tried to get Darwin Nunez this summer. Maybe Liverpool wouldn’t let him go to another Premier League side but think he’s wasted in Saudi. I get all the jokes about him not being clinical but if it clicks for him he could be deadly.

I’m quite confident that Thomas and McAteer will both go on to be very solid Premier League players as they get into their mid to late 20s. Look at lots of the players we won the league with and how their career’s didn’t take off until they got into their prime.

If he makes one of those moves then totally. I’d prefer he makes a straight loan with option/obligation dependance on ours and the team who moves to’s performance. He should be playing top level football but feels a bit silly him going to a side that may get relegated again permanently. Firstly, we could get more next summer if he performs again, and secondly not good for his career not settling somewhere he can be successful both personally and with a team that’s his.

Totally agree. I genuinely thought they’d struggle to attract the calibre of players they’ve been linked with/close to signing - kind of thought they’d hit there ceiling for a few years as Championship is a massive step up compared to the step to League 1 from League 2. Could go either way, as we’ve seen with many sides that chase the players that are big names or slightly over the hill. Had kind of written them off as a threat (for this season) but starting to come around to thinking they’ll be pushing for the play offs now given the ambition they’re showing. Fair play to them, their fans must be loving it.

If he had longer on his contract he’d be a definite keep, unfortunately he doesn’t. We’d be stupid not to take money when we’re so stocked in full back areas with senior players and have Aluko on the cusp of a breakout year.

Box to box. If we go aggressive with our press and get the creativity from our wide men (if we’re assuming Bilal goes) then it can work. KDH and Ndidi were far from creative as 8s but the system got us there for creating chances and attacking/overloading the right spaces. If Marti gets it right then it’s fine. I made peace with keeping him as I thought there would be no interest given his wages and the level we’re at being fine for him. Hopefully Nelson and Okoli can push on and take the opportunity presented to them now - I just hope the powers that be don’t think we need to replace him with another ‘leader’.
