Winger and attacking midfielder please.
-
He might have struggled a bit after a good start but he's only 20. You'd hope our new coaching set up would be confident of improving him.
-
Doesn't have to be a world beater just needs to be better than most of the Championship options. If he helps us get promoted then he's worth more than £3m and saved wages. I'm sure he's being over paid but it is what it is.
-
Matividi offered very little until around the time of our first goal and then he came alive. Seemed to suddenly remember he had a bag of tricks and could take the man on. McAteer did a solid job, looked pacey and kept his width. Couple of rookie errors which you'd expect. Generally pretty good and once Praet came on they combined well. I'd agree with no right sided player pushing on behind him and Ndidi struggling to play further forward he did look a bit isolated at times.
-
If Praet wants to stay for one more year or if we don't get a decent offer I'd say keep him. Seemed to fit what Maresca wanted better than Ndidi. Played well.
-
Agree with Vardy, he looked isolated but worked hard off the ball. Nacho looked better at finding the ball but walked around off the ball and chased nothing. They'd both look better combining with another striker, I'm hoping we see Nacho in a 10 role but he might not have the work rate for playing in a Maresca midfield.
-
I presumed the idea was that he'd drop in alongside Winks when we defended and then when we attacked Ricardo would come into midfield alongside Winks and Ndidi would push up and be a makeshift target man. Use his size and power to flick the ball on or hold it up. Didn't work. Nice idea though I'd rather we skipped trying it again.

If they want a goalkeeper that plays out from the back they can have Ward instead.

So, Players for the Championship rebuild, who do you want?

Versatile, should be coming into his prime. Can play on the wing or fullback on the right. When Castange goes cover in those areas would be useful. As long as his wage demands are reasonable, why not. -

If Everton are trying to offload him for a free then I'd be tempted to explore the option, subject to him wanting reasonable wages. There's a very good player in there somewhere and at 27 he should be in his peak years. Depends what kind of projects Maresca wants to take on. -
Vestegaard has been a failure for us but he's played plenty of games in the Bundasliege and in the Prem for Southampton doing a good job. There's a good player in there somewhere. If Maresca thinks he can bring that out then great. If not flog him to whomever will take him.

Presumably they'll have to sell some of those guys to balance the books (especially because they've already spent more than they've sold) and avoid having a bunch of players angry at not being allowed to leave for Prem football. The longer they wait the better the deal they might be able to negotiate but the season is about to start and with only two players in a rebuild will be required.

The club is still in a stable place though which is a huge difference to the mess that it was dumped in before. League 1 was in the Mandaric years so we weren't even that skint by that point. Two big errors for me were the 2021 summer transfer window. The arrogance to buy squad players and sell no one assuming we'd continue to get European football. Went against the sell one and reinvest in the first team policy and it cost us over the next two seasons. Second error was loyalty to Rogers, he'd lost the dressing room by the end of last season and should have never made it to the start of pre season. Arrogance got us relegated, salary outlay and nice training set ups matter for very little really. Spurs have the nicest stadium in the league and spend plenty on their squad but have an empty trophy room.
-
If you think this is incompetence you must be young. Go back and look at some of the history. It's not even that long ago we got relegated to League 1 and that season we could barely kick a football in the right direction.
-
If that's a joke . If not you've got a very short memory or are very young.
-
The intensity of the Prem looked like it was the issue. The slower pace of the game in Italy might suit him. There's definitely a good player there.
-
Depends how much he's going to cost. Buy now and sell next summer for a profit and he's helped fire us to promotion isn't a bad tactic.
-
Depends on what Man City do after. They've only splashed out on one signing so far so they'll have cash to play with if they want a replacement for Mahrez (should he go).
-
As with all these things, it depends on the club and it depends on what Man City want him to work on. He played 850 mins over those 25 games so on average 34 mins per game. If Man City want him to work on his durability and physicality then a season playing every week in the Championship is beneficial. If they want him to work on his skills and pace of the game then Premiership though he'll probably play less in the Prem.
-
Burnley will only be a good move for him if he's going to play. He's going to be looking higher than the Championship ideally but our trump cards will be Maresca and the fact he'll be playing a lot of football.

We bought Hammond and Morgan for fees. We needed experience in the spine of the team. Acquiring Coady and Winks helps give us that as well. I don't really want to see anymore experienced players brought in and prefer the younger players like you suggest. The two signings we made are what we needed though what with all of Tielemans, Mendy, Evans and Soyuncu out the door.
-
it does that often. Oakley left by then but add Hammond and Konchesky to the list.
-
I mean we did invest in experience when we got promoted last time it wasn't all youngsters. Morgan, Wasil, Nugent, Oakley, Phillips and Gary Taylor-Fletcher. We had experience as well as youth. Got to get the balance right.
