I think that we got decent fees for all of those players. Not to mention the £12m for McAteer!
-
Great post. Some of our fans are living under a rock with their "tear up their contracts" views. The players are not fans. This is their job. There is no way that I would uproot my entire life and family to earn less money. He can see out his final year and earn ~£2.5m. Who can blame him?

With PSR, you cannot do either of these. I fear that we will have to sell some promising academy products (pure profit) and Fatawu (will exceed his book value). I hope that we can loan Faes back to Monaco to cover his wages and that someone takes a punt on Winks. We'll make a couple of free transfers and use the young players/loan market to pad out the squad. I dan see us still being stuck with the likes of Vestergaard and Choudhary on ridiculous wages.

Who are you selling our crap to? This is the major issue that we will have thus Summer. We want to keep the players that other teams want and sell the players that nobody wants.

I honestly think we can get out of the bottom
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to huddersfieldfox's topic in Leicester City Forum
I believed this too. I think that we need 13 points from our final 7 games. I looked up when we last did this, believing it to be around February 2024. We actually achieved this between November and December THIS season. -

Tomorrow's game is massive. Preston have nothing to play for and we should be fighting for our lives. If we win and back it up with a win at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday, then I think that we stay up. We then have Swansea at home before travelling to Fratton Park to play an out of form Portsmouth. I truly believe that another 13 points will see us stay up. As long as we go into the final game in 22nd place and within 3 points of Blackburn, then I give us a chance. -

Players Contracts, Salaries and Expiry dates
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to Sly's topic in Leicester City Forum
Faes is also out of contract in 2027. At the end of this season we will have no recognised first-team striker, but we will still be carrying way too many overpaid defenders. We simply must sign James at the end of the season and sort out Nelson's contract. I highly doubt that we will be able to move many players on as we simply pay them more than they are worth. -
Do we really want promotion this season ??
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to Timfox's topic in Leicester City Forum
I saw an interview with Alan Curbishley talking about how the first time that Charlton got promoted they did just this. They only signed players on Championship level contracts and accepted that they would be relegated. The 3-year plan was to gain promotion again the following season but to be financially secure enough that they could have a real chance at establishing themselves as a Premier League club. The plan worked. They won the Championship the following season and the spent seven seasons in the Premier League. -
Our problems run WAY deeper than the manager. In the Summer we had decent clear out, but we are still carrying a LOT of pages who are massively overpaid based on their ability to play football. A lot of these players will be out of contract at the end of the season, which gives us a proper opportunity for a full reset. For the fans calling for youth players to be used more: Cifuente's job is to win as many games as he can. If he is selecting the 'old guard' then this is because he believes that they give us th best chance of achieving this goal. He and his staff are qualified football coaches who see these players all week in training. I am prepared to give them the benefit of doubt in this regard. My biggest issue is the style of football that we have been serving up for many years now (since a couple of years in to the Rogers era). This is a conscious decision by the CLUB and will be a key attribute that they look for in any new manager. Because of this, changing the manager will not change the approach. I can't see this changing until there is a change at the very top of the club. I cannot see Top selling up anytime soon and, as such, we are going to keep repeating the cycle of changing managers; serving up turgid possession-based football; and underachieving, for any years to come.

Leicester 1 - 1 Wrexham POST MATCH
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to SecretPro's topic in Leicester City Forum
I was actually pretty happy with how we set up today. Only playing Winks in the pivot with Bobby and James pushed further forward was the correct tactic against an inferior opposition. I thought that Winks, and James in particular, both played well. The problem that we have is that we do not look to transition the ball forward with any urgency. Winks is a good playmaker, but we seem to be afraid for anyone else to pass the ball forward. We do not play out from the back; we play around with the ball in inconsequential areas of the pitch. Our style of play is both boring and ineffective. When we went a goal up, I wanted to see us go all out fir the second goal to kill the game off. Instead Martí made defensive substitutions and we were punished. The players have to carry some of the blame, but, for me, the system and style of play are the bigger issues. I have never felt more apathetic or disconnected from the club. In a bizarre way, I wish that our squad/team was weaker so that we didn't consider playing this slow-tempo, possession-based crap was an option. -
I'd guess at around £500k, compared to their Premier League wages but probably cliser to £350k, compared to their wages following any relegation decreases to their pay.

Kasey McAteer (gone to Ipswich, official. 12m.)
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to moore_94's topic in Transfer Talk
Kasey is a good squad player and a decent option off the bench/in the cups. The bottom line is that £5m+, in pure psr profit, is a good deal for us. -
Easily pleased? We won the League - I was absolutely delighted!
-
Surely the Manager(s) are picking the players that they believe have the best chance at winning a game of football? Martí has been here for a very short time, so I am not surprised that he is favouring more established players over Academy graduates. It is up to Nelson, Alves et al (Monga is already getting game time) to impress in training and in any appearances that they make. I'm sure that many of them will have an opportunity on Wednesday - it is up to them to take it.

Besiktas confirm they are close to signing Wilfred Ndidi
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to Ric Flair's topic in Transfer Talk
Why was the other thread locked when the transfer has not yet been confirmed? -
Kone was the League One (joint) top goal scorer last season. He wasn't outscored by anyone.
-
He was League One Player of the Season last year AND the League One (joint) top goal scorer. What more do you expect of him?
-
James Justin (signed for Leeds, official. 10m.)
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to SouthStandUpperTier's topic in Transfer Talk
We should cash in as he is in the final year of hus contract and has no book value. Losing him does weaken our starting 11, however, Thomas is only just below his standard. -
He's a decent squad player who can fill in a variety of positions. A great option to have on the bench. I dislike him due to his off-field antics but the biggest issue for me (and any interested clubs) is the obscene contract that he was awarded (rumoured to be ~£50k per week).

Unreal moment from an average player?
ThorpeAstleyFox replied to LAprice_'s topic in Leicester City Forum
I was very young at the time, but I vividly remember Paul Fitzpatrick (google him!) scoring a 30-yard screamer against Bristol City (?) at Filbert Street.
