Well that's not true. In the 80s they were a good top flight side. When Howard Wilkinson took them up in 84 they stayed for all but one of the next 16 years in the top flight. One of my earliest memories was a 0-5 pumping at Filbert St.

I think that there is a bit of over confidence creeping in among the FT faithful. I'm not sure I like it. I think I'm more comfortable with the catastrophising and pessimism. In true FT reactionary spirit, Ipswich have one bad game and suddenly they're no hopers it seems. I think we could be in for a rude awakening.

Relegated clubs do have an advantage with parachute payments and PL quality players but that isn't sustainable. In the Prem, Man Utd for instance will always have much deeper pockets,regardless of how well they are performing. In The Championship. relegated clubs that don't go back up straight away will have that advantage wiped out. Loads of clubs that were relegated from the PL have become also rans in The Championship.

I'm gonna chime back in here, without having scrolled back. In the honour list for LCFC it will read in order: PL champs, FA Cup, League Cup x3 then 2nd and 3rd tier titles. I would squeeze the Community shield in there too. All are major honours in my view, although there is an obvious hierarchy of importance. Let me ask you this: The FA Cup is considered a superior trophy to the League Cup, does that mean that The League Cup is not a major honour? Cus it bloody is in our house and i was jumping around like a loon when we won it. Would you consider that new European conference thing that we got knocked out of a major honour? It is the third tier of European competition but if we would have won it, nobody could tell me that it wasn't a major honour. When I was a kid, I had a tour of Filbert Street and was amazed to see a trophy room (room, not cabinet), stuffed with trophies. This is pre Boro League cup win and had all manner of silverware. Presentations for pre season tournaments and local matches v Oadby Town and the like. These are not major honours. You are asking those of us that care about collecting silverware and expanding our honours list to justify it being a major honour but let us not forget that you called it literally nothing. I think your exact words were that there is "literally no difference between first and second place". Well bollards to that kind of thinking. If we get something big and shiny, contested nationally and with our name engraved upon it, it is a major honour and worth having. Champions of any league is a major honour imo and if we win this one, we will have the record number of second tier titles. It isn't nothing.

This is not intended as a dig, but I'm not sure that you do get it. No one is denigrating our PL title and FA Cup by saying that The Championship title is the same thing. I think that you have come to the conclusion that people are saying that by yourself. It isn't remotely the same, but I choose to still call it a major honour, below those, particularly as it would be a record eighth, but then I choose to think that the Community Shield is a major honour too. Look at it this way, I'd consider an OBE to be a major honour but it is levels below a Victoria Cross for instance.

Its relative I think. It is definitely a tier down from the EPL title and FA Cup and I don't think that anyone is arguing that it isn't, but you can still consider it a major honour below those. Lets be honest, the prem title is not realistically repeatable and we may have to wait another hundred years for an FA Cup, so for us, an eighth second tier title should be considered a major honour.

The title matters to me too. We have dropped 11 points all season. Leeds start today 13 points behind us. IF we beat Rotherham, that gap is maintained with half the season gone. Forget about Leeds. We need to hold off Ipswich for the title.
