He was brilliant in his time as a presenter but not able to involve himself in the conversation. Lineker’s strength is he was a world class striker in the men’s game who also has become a very slick presenter. The other names you mention don’t have that gravitas so will be a downgrade irrespective of their presenting ability. If we are being honest, what many of them do have is the power of not being a white middle aged man and that is ultimately a strength in a area of tv entertainment that is trying to hit certain targets and attract new audiences.

Lineker does that too even though he was a class above many of those he talks to in the MOTD studio. The difference is he can offer an opinion on say Harry Kane and it’s actually constructive and interesting even though it annoyed the current England striker. Lineker also often provides some sanity when he’s got say Keown or Murphy alongside him, lesser players with big opinions. Chappers can’t possibly provide that because he’s effectively one of us. He's not been there even if his opinion is valid. I actually quite like Prutton on Sky’s Championship because he’s a slick presenter and was a pro footballer so he’s been there and done that. Less so Jenas when he wasn’t in disgrace as he’s just not at the same level presenting-wise.

Everyone calling for Chappers underestimate how much Lineker uses his past experience as a world class striker to add to the viewing experience. He’s not a just a brilliant host who asks questions to the more knowledgeable guests, he’s been there and done that at the highest level and that gives him so much more as the host. Chappers is a good tv host but very much the question asker who has to realistically get the guests to provide all of the experienced answers as he’s not got that previous history as a pro. It’s a big loss for the BBC from their flagship footy programme in my opinion.

I’d say a good proportion of the home crowd are equally as upset with Cooper’s (mis)management as the away fans (many are both tbf.) It’s just much more difficult to start an off the cuff chant at a home match than it is away as the fans are spread over 3/4 of the stadium. It won’t be long however until ‘Cooper Out’ chants are heard across the KP and at away games if he continues with his current trajectory.

There is one small problem with your plan. Ricardo is out for 4 months!

He actually caused a lot of problems for Dalot who fouled him 3 times and Casemiro struggled against him when trying to help out. The problem was the bit after he’d beaten his man when his decision making usually went wrong. That being said he was one of the few catching the eye for us alongside Buonanotte and Winks. No one was great but I think he was better than 2/10!

You can see Winksy’s frustration with his manager week in week out on the pitch. He was our best player today (despite his rubbish set pieces.) Going from a master tactician and motivator in Maresca to Cooper’s chaos must’ve knocked a football technician like him for 6.

Cooper is adept at soundbites like this. Nothingism’s that appear to say lots but have very little meaning other than obvious statements whilst trying to put a positive spin on shit shows like this. Presumably he says similar things to the players which is why we continue to repeat the same under whelming performances week in week out. He’d be better off moving to a social media post at the club where he could speak this well worded dialled in shite week in week out without the expectation it will motivate the players or the fans.

The only thing we can hope for is Cooper has a reputation for over estimating the time it takes for an injury to recover. Otherwise we are down to 1 fit right back in JJ who is long term out of form defensively and yet who is expected to play in a superhuman role as a wing back and a traditional fullback AT THE SAME TIME in Cooper’s bizarre lob sided formation that he uses when Ricardo is unavailable/not selected.

When the effort isn’t being put in on the pitch you know that the writing is on the wall for the manager. For the sake of this season he surely has to go. Ignoring his shocking tactics, the manager is at least meant to motivate and Cooper appears to do the exact opposite.

I was in the lower tier at Portman Road and got an excellent view of the Soumare run. The grit and determination in the lad’s face was clear to see, absolutely no one was going to shake him off the ball. Whether it’s a blip, whether he’s playing for a January move or whether it’s actually a bit of positive coaching from Cooper I’ll guess we’ll find out over the next few weeks! .

Everyone saying the Fatawu collision was a penalty, particularly the Ipswich fans, seemed to have forgotten the elbow driven into the back of Buonanotte’s head by Phillips in the first half. Didn’t get anywhere near the ball. It was reckless and it was contact with the head ffs - a red card every day of the week and the game would’ve been very different with Ipswich playing the majority of the game with 10 men rather than the last few minutes.

Everyone’s criticising his defensive play, did you see his involvement for the goal? Raced back as last man and won the ball back, then sprinted forward with it, beat his man and knocked him flying, slid it inside to Ayew who scores after 1-2 with Vardy. That’s two games now where he’s looked good.

Seem to remember he played well and was the standout performer back in late October 2024 against Man U at Old Trafford. I think it was in the Carabao Cup. 🤔

Conor Coady getting over 4/10 is quite impressive. Presumably the goal earned him an extra point or 2.

Vardy not travelling but this lad still being benched behind Ayew for the centre forward role (when it’s pretty clear Ayew is not really any kind of goal threat in that role) should tell Edouard about where he stands in the pecking order. As soon as 50p boots Patson is back, the lad won’t even make the bench. What a signing - being behind Daka and Ayew in a selection order and 4th choice overall in a position that only uses 1 player at a time. Another stunning signing under the Rudkin(out) administration.

With the benefit of hindsight, maybe, just maybe, signing ageing unwanted squad players from teams like Fulham and Crystal Palace, and then getting Stevie Cooper to inspire and motivate them, might not be as successful as the club had hoped. Who would’ve thought it eh?
