The midfield needed revamping under Cooper, all we got is Skipp for £25 million. The midfield needed revamping under RVN, but we hardly had any funds in January. Now the midfield needs revamping under Marti, but we’re currently left with less options. To make Marti ball work, you have to have midfielders that can press, cover ground and make recoveries. Just think Bournemouth for example with the type of options they have in that position. Maybe we can get away with Winks as the 6 in the Championship, but my god, please get an energetic midfielder to go alongside him, then get Soumare out the door and replace him with someone who actually wants to run, otherwise our chances of promotion will diminish.

Our midfield options are just a jumbled up mess. Whoever plays in the 6 role needs to be able to control the tempo and progress the ball, of course our best option at this is Harry Winks, yet Marti has been playing him further forward as an 8. Soumare at Lille had Benjamin Andre alongside him, who happened to be one of the best players in Ligue 1 for tackles and interceptions. Soumare has no partner like that currently at Leicester City. Marti is currently playing him as a dictating 6, but as we know on the defensive end, he is just far too casual and lazy. Skipp has history of being better as a 6, but during his spell at Norwich and last season with us, he is very meh when it comes to progressing the ball. Also from what we’ve seen with him in a Leicester shirt, it’s difficult to say what his rightful position is. The right solution imo is Winks as the 6, then sign a box-to-box 8 who is adept on the defensive end. If we end up selling Winks, then we’ll need a whole new CM pairing. Persisting with Soumare and Skipp would just be criminal.

Maresca was very particular in his ways about the type of player profiles he wanted, he has done similar at Chelsea, especially with their winger situation. Marti needs to do similar, you can’t keep integrating players who look like they’d rather be elsewhere. There’s sprinkles of promise with this team, but as we saw tonight, you’ll always get reminded that there’s a tonne of shit in this team too. The shit is currently outweighing the promise imo. It’s difficult to fully get on board because a chunk of players are just so unlikeable.

He needs to get ruthless, otherwise I fear some of these players will hang him out to dry. This squad consisted of too many unlikeable players last season, a good chunk of them still remain. It’s going to be a tricky task for Marti to make progress, if those chunk of players are still here by September.

He is a work in progress, but if you want a striker who will work his socks off and press, he is someone worth looking at, especially if we can get Daka out the door.

Looking at contract situations, Rafiu Durosinmi and Nikola Stulic both have a year left on their deals, but then again, so do Sam Greenwood and Patrick Bamford

Was unsure about Okoli last season, I started to warm to him a little bit over pre season, but in terms of defenders with ball playing ability, we can do much better. Wouldn’t be against moving him on, but would much prefer it if it was Faes or Vestergaard. As I’ve said all summer, if one of them go, get in a loan replacement from the Premier League.
