Samilktray Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 You can get those Lenovo laptops for like, £100 or less on eBay. What's the catch? Can they run FM?
MooseBreath Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 Was going to ask, I've got one for work and it's a solid piece of kit but I can't imagine it's great for games and the screen isn't full HD and it's pretty heavy and bulky. But for those prices I guess you can't really go wrong.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Just got an Asus T300 Chi 8GB (tablet hybrid) for £450 - it's an incredible device for the money, the screen is an absolute beast
Adster Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 Most laptops will have the RAM and CPU capacity to run a game like FM. My laptop has an i5 with 4gb RAM and that runs FM just fine. However anyone looking to hardcore game with games that'll test your performance like Fallout etc I'd definitely get a desktop. I'm not saying laptops are bad (they aren't) but customisation and updating GPU's is much easier on a tower build PC than a laptop if you plan to upgrade your graphics every few years or so.
Guest Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 I picked up a lenovo g51 for $329 a few weeks ago. Apart from the current graphics issue (see pixelation thread), and an occasionally gimpy touchpad it's a good lil' runner. Gimme a few days and I'll let you know how good lenovo's customer service is... Works pretty well for FM.
Richard Posted 28 February 2016 Posted 28 February 2016 I've had a second hand lenovo x220 refurb for about a year now. Cost me ~£180 off ebay with 8gb ram i5 processor, had an ssd lying lying around so put that in it too and it's pretty quick, runs FM15 fine for me (though I don't play in 3D) small, reasonably lightweight, good build quality and good keyboard. Much better than most windows laptops you'll get for around £400-500 Oh and mine was built in 2011 apparently so is 5 years old and still runs smooth as any laptop i've ever used
Guest Posted 5 March 2016 Posted 5 March 2016 Well, my verdict is a very defininite "No" to Lenovo. MY HPs and Dells have all been better experiences than this.
The People's Hero Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 Not only should you probably avoid Lenovo due to the bloatware and restrictive nature of setup but if buying HP of similar make sure you know what you're getting. Lots of OEMs are throttling CPUs and GPUs especially in small form models. This means what you're getting on paper is good but performance will not match up. 100% an AMD issue so far. Not sure anyone will risk upsetting Intel in the same way !
Harry96 Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 Didn't think this was worth a new thread but I've got a Lenovo yoga 2 laptop and I want to plug it up onto my TV via hdmi but it doesn't have a standard hdmi port,I think it's micro hdmi cable needed but not sure which kind. Does anyone know by any chance what hdmi cable I could get? Thanks
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 Any micro HDMI to HDMI cable will do - http://www.amazon.co.uk/KabelDirekt-Micro-Cable-1080p-Ethernet/dp/B00B1C9ISQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1457448328&sr=1-2&keywords=micro+hdmi+to+hdmi+cable or just an adapter for a standard HDMI cable - http://www.amazon.co.uk/18-Month-Warranty-Connector-Converter-Coupling/dp/B01AWYHHKE/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1457448328&sr=1-23&keywords=micro+hdmi+to+hdmi+cable

Guest Posted 1 April 2016 Posted 1 April 2016 Don't buy a Lenovo. My laptop has been out for repair every since the beginning of March (plus a couple of weeks before that trying to fix it via tech support). They've replaced the trackpad, the hard drive (apparently it wouldn't boot up for them), the motherboard and the screen. It still has some stupid gradient pixelation/ banding artifacts, and now the video is hanging up. Worst computer I've ever had, non-existent customer service, terrible tech support ...and to top it off they want me to pay postage for warranty repair work. Would have total $150 by now. Thankfully the store I bought it from is covering that cost.
Nalis Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 How can one brand divide so much opinion? Need to upgrade my current laptop, most I'll use it for would be streaming as opposed to gaming. Is it better going for a refurbished laptop to get more for your money?

There are two types of Lenovo laptops - the consumer grade ones which aren't particularly good, and the enterprise grade ThinkPads which are among the best laptops ever made, and best of all, you can get second hand ex-corporate ones dirt cheap on Ebay. I writing this on an X300 which cost me about £150

I writing this on an X300 which cost me about £150 I think you're probably right about that. Shame really, coz it felt like a well-built machine but the internal components must be made of cardboard.

Is it better going for a refurbished laptop to get more for your money? I've gone for refurbs a few times before and always had good experiences. I've just picked up a Dell and took an 'opened box' one. Mint condition as far as I can tell and saved me $100.
