Thanks, looks a good deal but you have to sign up to costco (annual fee £25) and i don't believe I meet their qualification requirements

Yeah sorry I realised that after I posted. They are doing £100 cash back on HP's UK website for the month of May and there looks to be some good deals on there subject to availability.

It shows what constitutes a good deal in that kind of price range. Out of a higher end processor, full HD screen, some sshd capacity and a dedicated graphics card, if you can get three or more of those for around £450 then you're doing well.

Well worth keeping an eye on the hot UK Deals website as people post and discuss new offers on there fairly regularly.

Thanks and will do. Not in a rush anyway.

Hey guys thinking of buying this particular laptop mainly for FM2015. Just wanted to know if it's value for money. It has an i3 procesor which i know is better than pentium or celleron variants. Didnt think an i5 was justified for my needs what with the extra cost invariably involved. If ypu guys could be so nice as to take a look and give me your ppinion that would be awesome :) thanks in advance

I'd appreciate your view on this.

The big problem for me is it's difficult to get a definitive view of the total spec.

The only things missing are the DVD drive and it's an HHD drive although according to one of the reviews it does have hybrid, combining a 5400rpm drive with an 8GB SSD

Or this one

Right, I'm looking for a new laptop. Budget at top whack is about £600. Had a look online and not found anything that's taken my fancy (so far). Looking to run FM very smoothly, but a few other bits as well. Nearly tempted to build my own PC for this kind of money.

Suggestions welcome people

If running FM's your main concern, prioritise processing speed and RAM over the graphics card and storage space when you get to making the inevitable trade-offs.

Which machines have you looked at so far?  If you're anything like me you'll never find one which ticks all your boxes - there's always a better CPU or GPU or cooling system etc. just outside of your budget - so you'll have to bite the bullet and make concessions somewhere.

Yeh I agree 100%. Not looked at too many, though I saw this (link below, via HotUKDeals) which is available for £696 through a Dell sales advisor but I'm not sure I'd get enough use out of it to justify the price. My current laptop is a Compaq - painfully slow but it was bought as a sort of interim after I knackered my quad-core Acer (loved that laptop). Still not sure whether to blow £600+ or just go around the £400 mark, but you get what you pay for.

Anyway, here's what I'm looking at so far -

Got it down to £557. Wanted an extra 12 months warranty on top of the original year. Couldn't chuck it in for free - left it at that for now.

Well, sacked that idea off and I'm building a PC instead. Bought all the parts, just need a monitor and keyboard to finish it all off. Will spend up to £150 on a screen, and so far I'm keen on this - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/samsung-s24e510c-24-1920x1080-va-curved-widescreen-led-monitor-black-mo-220-sa.html

But I don't really know what is best for my money. Should I go for something else that's cheaper? Recommendations are welcome as always!

I am turning 30 soon and my wife has been asking me what i want for my birthday. After talking about Fallout 3 and thinking i would love to play it again ive thought about maybe getting a Laptop. Now i dont know much about laptops and havent got the money to go all out and get the proper gaming laptops.

So does anyone here have any ideas on what sort of laptop i should be looking at. Its purely for gaming but i have a PS4 so its more to play some of the older games again. Also i have heard of Steam but never looked into it. What is it exactly? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Steam is basically itunes for games (I think)

Anyone know of any good laptop repair places? Mine won't charge unless I put the laptop at a weird angle and the wire in a certain position.

Need to get the charging port fixed.

I normally go to Globetec Mobile Accessories (on Melton Road, though it's probably a bit of a journey from Narborough).

Helpful, tell you exactly what's wrong technically and decent prices.

You try fixing it yourself - buy the component on ebay, (few quid). buy set of mobile phone type tools (again a few quid) search around online for some help and when just do it. This happened to me on my old X60 Thinkpad and fixed it this way....

I'm literally the least practical person in the world so wouldn't even attempt it. It's quite old too. Tempted to go for the Thinkpad off ebay as above. Seen a refurbished one for £170 on ebay.
