Devonfox1884 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 So, I'm looking at buying myself a laptop, not rolling in it, so have a budget of £300/£350 at a push, anyone know of any good laptops for around this price?? So far the HP chromebook 14 is the best I have seen... Thanks!
Xen Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Depends what you'd use it for. I'd probably steer clear of chromebooks though. They look like a great deal but they don't have much substance to them, really...

Not too bothered about playing games on it etc...
Jaspa Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Picked up a second hand Lenovo x220 on Ebay in the middle of this year and Ive had no issues, cost me £250 for something that packs an i7, SSD, mSata slot, 12cell battery and a terrific keyboard. Its not the prettiest but brand new these things costed over a grand three years back. Not researched it much recently tbh, I'd avoid Acer at all costs
Xen Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 College work/research mainly, want something fairly quick ideally... Not too bothered about playing games on it etc... Okay, so I've taken another look and since I last looked into Chromebooks they've improved a lot, so it might actually be a decent shout for you after all (so long as you've got a steady internet connection for whenever you want to do any work). Microsoft have released Office Online so you'll be able to do your work as normal (not sure how similar these are to the full versions though...). Sounds like it might be good for you. I'd wait to see what other people with actual experience of chromebooks say though, as I'm just going on what I've read online...

Not had any problems with my HP so far, though not sure how it stands up with the cheaper models as mine is a mid-high range. Got a Lenovo laptop at work and that's fantastic, though it feels a bit plasticky compared to my HP...
AKCJ Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 You can't really buy a bad laptop for 350 nowadays to be fair.

My mate has a chromebook so I'll have to take a look at it when I'm next round his!! Looks like you can get one for about £275 on Amazon, so not too bad really!! Got a Lenovo laptop at work and that's fantastic, though it feels a bit plasticky compared to my HP... It's all a matter of opinion, I guess. I've got an Acer Ultrabook which is fantastic and before that I had a Dell for many years that served me very well. I've had an HP that was useless and constantly had bits falling off it - I wouldn't touch one again with a bargepole!
rico Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Currys got a decent sale on,just picked up a HP laptop reduced from £450 to £299

Sir Fynwy Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 My wife has a MacBook Air 11" (2011 spec) for sale at £400, I recommend someone buys that [emoji4]
whoareyaaa Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Acers are good solid laptops and you should be able to pick a new one up for about £350/4
Grewks Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Acer's are completely underrated for the price, especially if all you want is to do work/research on them.

casablancas Posted 19 April 2015 Posted 19 April 2015 Looking for a new laptop as my desktop is on its way out. Not looking for anything special. Just something hing that will play the usual football manager games. Looking for anything around the £300.00 mark. Anyone have any ideas?
Jaspa Posted 19 April 2015 Posted 19 April 2015 Some recommendations in here - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/98612-laptop-reccomendations-please/ Mines still going strong anyway, still need to buy some more memory for the msata slot, playes FM easily and lasts about 5hours off a charge

MrSpaM Posted 28 April 2015 Posted 28 April 2015 Managed to pick this one up last week for £300 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-notebook-15-r150sa-15-6-laptop-black-10034877-pdt.html#cat-0 I got a deal on hot UK deals for it which bought it down £50, still a great laptop for £350 though

Jaspa Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 whats the battery life like? Lasts an average of around 6-8 hours, you could probably squeeze 10 out of it if you needed to, Ive never let the battery run under 30% though so thats partially an estimate. I generally use it for media, web use and very rarely FootyManager, It holds up well. Its very compact though so the screen is tiny, if its for personal use its fine but I'd recommend looking at the Lenovo T420 which is basically the same thing but bigger, around the same price. These things are very good to tinker with too, a screw here and there and I can swap out the screen, RAM and get to the internals. Look into it some more online if youre interested they get alot of good reviews Managed to pick this one up last week for £300 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-notebook-15-r150sa-15-6-laptop-black-10034877-pdt.html#cat-0 I got a deal on hot UK deals for it which bought it down £50, still a great laptop for £350 though Thats not bad at all mate. In warranty, brand new, decent specs, a brand that have put some good models out recently all for a fair price by the looks of it
