Konchesky time to call it a day

That we needed a fitter, younger, more mobile DM in the squad. Cattermole was mentioned as an option.

Yep, pretty much that.

Do you get bored of justifying the Cattermole stuff? lol

But he didn't do that though did he, he quite clearly tried to help out in that area when he could. For the first goal he and FOUR others were in the corner. The problem was that Morgan got pulled out beyond all of them and was almost on the touch line. A simple ball in to the space he should have been covering exposed the defence.

As the game went on he couldn't do it as much because he's 34 years old, that's not his fault. If we'd had some subs he probably wouldn't have been on the pitch. That's the managements responsibility to put him in a position then that doesn't expose his weakness then.

It's would be like moaning at Drinkwater for not winning a header because Pearson asked him to mark Peter Crouch at a corner.

That's too easy just to blame management for every fault. He has his strengths - vision, occasional pass, vision, leadership and he has his weaknesses - speed, defensive liability ... He's not as good as some make out and not as bad as others make out.

No, I get bored of sheep twisting things out of context to avoid the actual point being made. One which I consider still very valid.

Where's the 5 man defence in a 352?

And anyway, it's not just Konch last night, it's almost every game see him fail to stay with opposition midfielders when the ball is in the box

Well you have two wing backs and three centre halves. When we are defending he has three centre halves to help him deal with the attacking threat.

At some point yes but I'd say nearly every midfielder in the Premeir League lets their runner go at some point every week it's part and parcel of playing midfield you can't be man tight 100% of the time as when we've got the ball you've got to go looking for large amounts of space. Basic football that. Total non critisim.

We don't though, we've just won four on the bounce Cambiassos been brilliant and we are staying up :P

And Lee is going dooowwwnnnnnnn (fingers crossed)

Defensive liability is harsh, he breaks a lot of play up. While he may not be mobile he organises the group to defend as a unit.

And occasional pass? His passing is very good, just is capable of world class from time to time, like last night.

It's amazing you think covering a player playing in a 5 man defence falls into the lap of a midfielder but you stick to your agenda

If your wing backs are up front then it is your midfielder (especially the defensive midfielder with vision to see the problems) who should be covering. if 7 players are attacking only having 5 defenders covering would be pretty stupid.

I get it you like him a lot. No problem, let's move on.

You've hit the nail on head.

He's 34 and runs out of gas.

Remember what I said in the summer?

That's been an issue this season and a significant one.

Why does Pearson keep giving him 90 mins?

What about the third goal?

Who should have been where for that one?

I also pointed it out, so did many other people, most probably felt it didn't even need pointing out. You know with a 34 year old he's not going to have the legs he once did.

I don't think it's been that big an issue, that people make out. His ground covering has actually been exceptional of late. Always in the top two or three of ground covered per game.  But playing three games in a week clearly it was going to be difficult. If we'd not lost two people to injury in the first half I doubt he's even be on the pitch.

The last goal should have been either Albrighton or the right sided CM, James. If you are focusing on who should have been trying to stop the shot. The ball was switched from the left back area across field.

Col's got a new buzz word.

Yeah but Konchesky was barely out of his own half the second half so your whole point is completley null and void lol

Anyone questioning Konchesky desire is a moron. He just simply isn't good enough anymore at this level, especially against the big boys.

James and Cambiasso should have swapped so James could get out there to help.

Ivanovic is often a massive threat going forward for Chelsea.

God another thread hijacked by FIF and Col about Cambi being over rated/poor, so boring now.

Konch had a decent game last night, but we're missing Schlupp and at another year older next year I think we should line up a replacement.

But Konchesky is only 33.

Of course it's their fault, he's 34. They know he's not going to have the legs he once did, especially for three games in a week. So if your left back is getting exposed, the left centre back is failing to cover properly then putting all your eggs in the basket of a 34 year old is just stupid. They would have been better served putting him on the right of midfield and switching him with James. That way he'd have had the legs of Albrighton and De Laet around him.

He is, because Azpilicueta stays back to add pace to JT & Cahill.

Ivanovic has as many assists as playmaker Ozil too.

Lets not beat ourselves up over it though, Chelsea would have beat anyone in that second half

James was actually at fault for 3rd imo..He was in the left back position and put in a very very half hearted effort into a block tackle with Ivanovic. If that was defended properly the ball wasn't even getting squared across the box.

Drogba is 37, Giggs played to 40, Scholes to 38, people peak at different points in their careers, I think we should replace Konch at the end of the season. Can't help but think this is somehow meant as if Konch is past it at 33 how bad must Cambiasso be at 34. Painful.

sorry, occasional completed forward pass.

My god, you are boring.

Put your neck on the line, and give me a realistic signing that would have done a better job this season?

You can pick the bones out of it all you want

We got beat by Chelsea ffs. It was always going to happen.

Konchesky, shite or not shite, is the best option we have at the moment.

The lads have been excellent recently and that was a reasonablly spirited display, right off and move onto Saturday and stop picking non existant faults within the team.

The Huth injury is the biggest problem we have.

He's been a liability for a long time, it doesn't take the PotY to point it out - truth is we desperately need pace on the wings if we're playing 3 - 5 - 2 / 5 - 3 - 2, cover or no cover; you need to be capable of getting in front of the ball and making sure it doesn't get into the box, I can't recall a Chelsea attack down Konchesky's side which didn't end up in the box to be attacked. Look at the opposite side, what should be a weak spot with Albrighton being utilised as a RWB, was seen as a secondary target to an actual full back in Konchesky, that's how little Mou and the Chelsea players think of Konchesky. His defensive frailties have consistently been pointed out, and on a different day Burnley would have scored their penalty and people would be saying how ridiculous Konchesky was to concede such a penalty. People (including I) spoke last season about Wasileski being a liability, well Konchesky is twice the liability I thought Was was last season, remember when Nuge gave away a similar penalty against Tottenham - branded off as a striker trying to defend, Konchesky had no excuse for his.

Lack of pace, lack of attacking threat going forward from the position - 100% the weak point in the team, and it's been targeted and will be till Schlupp's back in the side, and even then Schlupp isn't a stellar fullback, he just offers way more going forward and a stronger presence with pace getting back. I defend Konchesky only in the sense that he was up against real quality and couldn't do much about it yesterday, but when the Mou is pointing out the weakness in your team, that's when you need to take action to sort it out.

We can't renew his contract next season, it would be a step in the wrong direction.

You were the one who said that Konch is too old.

You've made my point precisely, thanks.

Cambi is too old to be playing game in game out. Shouldn't have played or should have told management that he needs a game off. I'm sure they believe him when he says he has the fitness to play/finish games.

I like the signing.

Played great for us.

I'm not the one comparing him to a God, I'm saying he is goos with weaknesses that you can't see.
