stripeyfox Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 So I thought I'd book a room at the Holiday Inn at the stadium for Sunday night as a treat for my son. £50 for a room + breakfast. I'm sure it's not exactly five star but I guess it is fine. Was planning on arriving early and using the hotel car park, checking in before the game and then maybe afterwards after the crowds have cleared nipping back out to see if we can grab some pics with the players as they leave. Anyone else stayed there? Any pointers?
gerrytaggart Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Its ok. Really nice food in the spur grill next door.

Guest Bilo Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 I stayed there for the Newcastle game. Very convenient, plentiful parking and comfortable, quiet rooms. Nothing spectacular but gets the job done.
Guest Bob Hazels shorts Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Drink in Spur next door, no casual football fans allowed in H/I atmosphere may be poor

theadmans Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Yes I have done exactly this with my family before. Last time I did I it I even had time to have a hot shower after the game to warm up (was a winter game) and then get back out to get the autographs etc with my son as the players as they left. Breakfast can be a bit of a scrum if busy. The coffee machine makes nice coffee but the fried breakfast is not as good as what you get at a Premier Inn etc. Deffo worth it though for the convenience of parking etc.

The review on tripadvisor are fairly bad overall; main complaints being noise, rowdy behaviour and lack of staff as well as mediocre breakfast. Would probably look for something else if the missus was with me as she's a bit more fussy about these things!
Foxhateram Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 In experience of both, I prefer to stay at the premier inn on narbarough road and get the bus up to upperton road/walk depending on time of year when I travel up from the south west. Premier inn do fantastic breakfasts and it's normally quiet, even on match days.
Bramhall Fox Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 We stayed at the Marriott before the Newcastle game - a number of our players were there, as were the whole of the Newcastle team. So that was pretty damn exciting, as we got loads of photos, autographs etc. However, they weren't there the night after, just the night before (and not all of them either - I guess just the ones who live too far away from Leicester to risk driving in for an early kick-off).

Years ago I'd have said Wellens and Gally for players living out of town, now I'd guess Kasper? Who else I'm not sure, maybe Huth and Albrighton.
Bramhall Fox Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 We met Kasper, Huth, Upson and James. Apparantly a couple of others were also there, but not sure who. Those 4 were all fantastic - although it helped that we walked in with my sons both wearing their Leicester shirts! And, to be fair, the Newcastle players were all really nice and friendly as well (but probably wouldn't have been if we'd seen them after the game! Again, none of them were around the Saturday evening).

Len Finsbury Posted 20 May 2015 Posted 20 May 2015 You have a good deal there. We've been up for the last game of the season a few times and stayed there but we vowed never again last season. It cost us £90 a night and the breakfast was the worse yet. Location is ideal, thats true, and being a Premier Inn you know the rooms will be decent but it all depends on the price that you can get it for.

The breakfast does sound particularly shite which is a shame because my kids love the Premier Inn "choose what you want and have seventeen bowls of coco pops if you like" breakfast. But booked it on a whim, probably a one off. Only previous experience of Holiday Inn was the one at Westfield near the Olympic Park and it was brilliant.
CORNFOX68 Posted 21 May 2015 Posted 21 May 2015 The hotels fine really convenient £50 is a bargain must be because its qpr i was quoted £95 liverpool game and £119 chelsea piss take
steveherbe Posted 22 May 2015 Posted 22 May 2015 Think we are in the travel lodge, Red Cow on the Hinckley Road. Bit far out, but 2 of us £15, thanks Simon.
stripeyfox Posted 26 May 2015 Author Posted 26 May 2015 Well, overall it was fine. Able to arrive early and park right outside (free), and able to check into room complete with Stadium view just after 12.30. Room clean and tidy and nice residents bar for a couple of pre and post match drinks, although had a bizarre encounter with a fellow resident who seemed to take exception to anyone in football colours (despite the fact he had a City shirt on) being in the residents bar. He asked me twice if I was staying in the hotel and after I told him that it was not any of his business but yes, I was, he chuntered something to his mate and walked off. Room was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was ok, if you like cereal and toast but anyone who likes a cooked breakfast will be sorely disappointed - there was some sausages (barely edible), scrambled (powdered) egg and beans - none of which was appetising. For £50/£60 I'd say it was worth it, especially for the convenience, parking etc.
