sphericalfox Posted 6 July 2015 Posted 6 July 2015 As the topic came up under another thread, and not to turn into a tangent I thought I'd ask the question separately. Is anyone concerned that we are not being linked or rumoured for younger players? I understand that it's early doors in the window, but I think given our current circumstances that we'd better not forget to supplement the team with strengthening the under 21s with one or two transfers. I may well be just overlooking these transfers or rumours, as obviously there's more interest in first team players. So apologies if this has already been asked or I'm just dense. I'm glad the owners want to show everyone they're deadly serious, and will put their money where their mouths are. (the money has been burning holes in their pockets for years!) As we seemingly are looking players, or are rumoured to be looking at players abroad for our first team squad. It's going to be a little light on home grown players. I'd like to see a bit more ambition that area, and hope that maybe there are a few lined up that could if signed would be knocking on the door of the first team squad. I hope that the new manager will, when given the chance, blood some youth in a cup un. Last year both the under 18s and the under 21s had pretty good seasons overall, and are definitely growing in strength year on year, and with a few <ahem> recent departures we obviously have some positions to fill, if not strengthen some more. For me the only way to get a 16/17 kid to join you over a rival or another club, is that one day you'll be giving the opportunity to them. Whilst buying in under 21s shouldn't be an endgame, It'll take our lads up another notch, and help be at least a draw talent to the club in the long run. I think now is the time to try invest more heavily in the under 21s rather than put all the focus on the first team.

Our problem is in our current position we can't trust or risk our premiership status to Young Players unless there established in either the Prem or Championship. That's why I think we missed a very good young player in Tyrone Mings and English too. He looks another Gareth Bale any time I've seen him. And only cost 7 Million. Although we do have Schlupp in a similar role.

Making up a story about Leocester being interested in a 16 year old Chelsea player not many have heard of wouldn't have the same effect. I trust our scouting teams actual list of targets will be much less weighted towards players in their late twenties as the Internet would have you think. That's my immediate assumption anyway
matty98 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 At the moment we aren't in a good enough position to attract good young talent so by buying older and more experienced players we will work up the league and then be able to attract younger hungrier players

Although we do have Schlupp in a similar role. Only cost £7m?? I actually cringed for Bournemouth that they shelled out that amount of money on a left back! He may be a bloody good left back but still, a newly promoted team spending that amount of money on a left back is crazy. When you think we got Fuchs on a free. I know they aren't comparable in age or nationality but I'm much happier signing Fuchs on a free than spunking £7m on Mings
