There might be one blessing of Nigel's departure

Wes was our worst performer for much of last season but wasn't dropped because he was the captain.

No he wasnt, the stat tables had him down for most blocks and one of the hardest players to get past in the Premier League.

There has to be more to him than simply being Nigels favorite and has been integeral in our successes over the last two seasons. Some people seriously underappreciate Wes on here, our Club captian

He was on the floor most of the time. That winning streak at the end of the season has seriously got to people's heads. Players were running rings around him mate

I understand players who throw themselves around more are usually out of position in the first place and are making up space as fast as possible to get something if anything on the ball out of desperation. That is the only question over Wes for me and he tends to cope with it well most of the time with his organisation, strength and the respect he commands from his own and other players, his positioning is normally solid enough too negating his biggest issue often.

The winning streak did prove he needed a solid partner next to him and the one we got in has hundreds of Premier League appearances in his system and Wes flourished along side him. Hes not perfect but he is very good at alot of important things for us and we should appreciate him for it, the club probably does in trusting his with the armband but some fans obviously dont

Where is he? Has he officially left, or just not resigned, or what?

Does anyone know?

His contract with us finished last month, so he's a 'Free Agent' now.

It is an irony that Wes's biggest fan (Nigel) thought that the defence, with Wes as leader, needed strengthening, and quite a bit.

Had someone of Huth's quality not been brought in, would the defence been strong enough?

Huth without Wes, or Wes without Huth?

Wes has captained us to the Premier league and has then captained us to a solid premier league finish. Just like Nige after that achievement he deserves to keep his job... Oh wait :/

Edit: caught with my pants down over a typo again. Bloody sharp eyed lot!

The way some fans want to toss our players who have delivered success aside really winds me up.

Wes struggled first half of the season, just like everybody else, but nobody cares that he had a rookie CB in Moore to help out as well as transitioning to the quality of the PL himself. He was also impressive in those circumstances against some of the bigger teams early on.

Wes played as much a part as Huth and Was in the second half of the season.

Didn't know Taribo West played for us.

We were an embarrassing shambles at the back before Huth came in and would be again if he gets injured. We need at least one more quality centre back and if everyone's fit that means Wes loses his place. We don't want a captain who's not getting in the team. No time for nostalgia.
