digitalalba Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 The excuse to appoint a better captain. Offering it to Cambiasso could help to keep him here and would be an excellent alternative. Huth would also be a great choice as it was clear his presence at the back proved to be a key part in our survival.
Guest LCFC_World Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 The captain role really didn't matter when Pearson was in charge. Everyone had a part to play in terms of 'leadership'.
ScouseFox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 yeah great seems like a majestic decision to sack him now
FireFox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 The captain role really didn't matter when Pearson was in charge. Everyone had a part to play in terms of 'leadership'. It made Morgan "undroppable" though. Would much rather have Huth or even Wasilewski undroppable (or even better, no one).
katieakita Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Plenty of leaders on the pitch who don't wear an armband so not that important on the pitch for me unless of course WES has a trick with tossing a coin or something.
digitalalba Posted 12 July 2015 Author Posted 12 July 2015 The captain role really didn't matter when Pearson was in charge. Everyone had a part to play in terms of 'leadership'. Very true, and I still want Nigel back, but Wes is not a premier league captain.
My Nads Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 It made Morgan "undroppable" though. Would much rather have Huth or even Wasilewski undroppable (or even better, no one). Yes I thought the same. There was quite a few times last season when he was the worst player on the pitch, but he played every minute. If we play a back 4 at any time, I would prefer Was and Huth. Saying that it doesn't soften the blow of Nige going at all!
st albans fox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 He seemed to win the toss at the KP more often than not ........ Surely that's the most important facet ?
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Yeah, makes me feel heaps better, cheers for that
The Doctor Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 You assume that cambiasso would want the captaincy - there was one match where he was given the armband following a substitution and passed it straight on.
digitalalba Posted 12 July 2015 Author Posted 12 July 2015 You assume that cambiasso would want the captaincy - there was one match where he was given the armband following a substitution and passed it straight on. As referred to above, under Nigel, it didn't really matter, and there might've been a line.
Fox92 Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Nothing wrong with Morgan as club captain. Don't see this "undroppable" stuff either, didn't Pearson drop Mills? We need a new centre half anyway (in the Huth mould).
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Cambiasso isn't even at the club Where is he? Has he officially left, or just not resigned, or what? Does anyone know?
Ashley Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 I do worry about people's lack of knowledge surrounding a captinacy role. No one knows what Wes is like off field and in the dressing room. It is easy to say give it to Cambiasso or Huth..
MPH Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Let's be honest, cambiasso was captain on the pitch last season whether he had the armband or not...
matty98 Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Wes is a quality captain, puts his body on the line every game and leads by example, what more could you want?
Foreverfox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Why would you change captain now? Wes lead us to the championship title and we achieved out target last season of staying up against the odds. I would say he's been the most successful captain we have had for many a year and he leads by example. The other side is nobody here knows what sort of influence he has in the dressing room or around the ground on training days away from the public eye. Also an excellent ambassador for the club in the community by all accounts so to call for a change of captaincy is ludicrous.
Xen Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Wes is a fantastic club captain, and in recent years the match day captaincy has become a trivial role. Pearson was too loyal to wes at times because of the armband, and he was essentially undroppable, when there were certainly a few periods where his selection could be questioned. But aside from those periods he proved himself more than capable for us. As long as the new manager doesn't see him as undroppable purely because he wears the armband, then there is no point giving it to anyone else. Consistency is key.
Spaghetti Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Wes was our worst performer for much of last season but wasn't dropped because he was the captain.
