Would hate to work at the Job Centre, though I presume job stability is very high and decent wage.

Staffing is at all time low, and there are redundancies all over the place.

Will be the biggest growth industry in the country is Corbyn gets in.

Public brainwashing? It's trying to encourage people to do a CV ffs, this is ridiculous.

Do you really believe the pictures and quotes in every single government pamplet are to be believed and taken at face value?

Then why not put it in more encouraging terms? You might even be able to get a real person to tell you how much being encouraged to do a proper CV helped them...

If you want people to aspire to something bettter for themselves, surely that's a better way to go about it than hearing from a work of fiction about how the government threatened to cut their payment if they didn't sort their CV out.

If you are a genuine jobseeker you shouldn't need any encouragement to get a CV together, I doubt this literature was being aimed at genuine job seekers. I'd imagine the sort of person in the job centre who is being sanctioned for not producing a CV when asked probably isn't the sort who needs encouragement, rather a bit of tough love.

They can send themselves to work at P:oundland  on Workfare.

There have actually been people who left their job then sent to work at the same place on a workfare scheme in order to receive JSA. Where is the sense in that? It only makes sense for employers andsome of the big corps that are involved  in Workfare donate to a certain political party. I will not name it as I will be accused of bias. Could be any of them.

I agree you shouldn't, and it's easy for people like you or I who have always had that motivation and drive to take that view. Sadly, the fact is there are people who do need such encouragement because they simply haven't had that before. Scaring them with threats, even dressed up nicely with a stock photo of a smiling girl, is hardly like to get them to shape up and change their view of the world of work.

lol I've seen some excuses in my time but stealing Mars Bars to feed a starving family is pushing the limit a bit, it works with a loaf of bread but I'm not sure the local fatty hiding Willy Wonka's workshop in the baby's pram is going to cause the revolution you are looking for.

We don't know the facts of the case, for what it's worth I know a builder who glassed someone as well and didn't go to prison, what's your point?

You've basically decided this man should go to prison on the basis he's in a well paid job.

So you know the fact thatthe woman who stole  the Mars  bar is a fatty lazy sod who has no intention of getting a job yet you dont know the facts about the bloke who smashed a glass in somebodys face. It works both ways. There are people that have stolen food to feed their child but because this case it was chocolate the story is twisted. The fact is that she was skint  and desperate.  It is a lot easier to hide a Mars bar than a 5lb chicken under your jumper.

And there we finally have it, the entitlement mafia are now defending people stealing Mars Bars to feed families.

It's pathetic, I'm out.

Just a bit, although my own fault for being on here at 11am.

Yeah, I thought the pubs opened much earlier than that..

To be honest, these minor lies don't bother me as much as the many major lies we get from the tories. But it's clear we have a government who are only too happy to tell lies about practically everything. What a stunning example they set to young people today.

They shouldn't, but the outrage from a lot on the left just shows exactly why they are in opposition here.

Most people do realise these things are common in all sorts of leaflets that involve any sort of material there to inform the public, the pictures you see in University brochures aren't always students who have actually achieved a first you know, those PPI adverts you see aren't really all people who have really managed to win 12,000, they are often actors used.

You do realise when Labour posted all their NHS leaflets a few months ago it wasn't actually the X-rays of people on the front they were using?

In future though I suppose we'll have to put a little *comments by actors, not actual jobseekers* at the bottom to make sure people don't get confused. Delighted to see the outrage though, Labour yet again coming down on the side of the "can work, won't work" crowd is great for the Tories.

Remember this picture? It wasn't an actual dole queue or employment office on it either believe it or not.

Yes and I think that has been overlooked in the haste to defend them at all costs If they have misled the public on this what else have they misled on? And did they mislead before the GE? What excuses will emerge out of the woodwork?

I didn't comment on that story because I didn't see the relevance, I'm sure the bloke wasn't on benefits so why mention it?

It was mentioned by another poster and Matt replied that he did not know the facts of the case. Whether he was on benefits does not matter. It was the act. If he had been no doubt he should have been hung.

It is those lines that confuse me. They seem to contradict each other. Should he be allowed to escape prison on the basis that  he is in a well paid job?

Vulnerable people are. Some forget they are human beings like everyone else.

Anyway of to the RJFP at the west End centre soon. If anyone knows anyone who is in a desperate situation (or not) they are welcome to come down and have a meal. You pay what you feel. Whether that is cash, donations, volunteering or even getting up and doing a song at the mic. All welcome. Status is no barrier. There will also be a takeaway table. Take what you can use.

Plenty of chocolate so no need to nick it.

The problem for me is this:

"The defendant had been given food bank vouchers but it was closed when she went, Miss Duncan added."

The proverb "you can lead a horse to water" springs to mind. There comes a point when people need to take just a small amount of responsibility. Even if it was closed all day, if you are someone using food bank vouchers and you are genuinely "starving", should it be too much to ask someone to plan their week?

They don't have Mars bars at the food bank, it's all Ainsley Harriott flour-flavoured couscous and pickled crab apples and such.
