kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Japan's World Cup qualifier v. Afghanistan kicks off at 1. 25 pm UK time.  Shinji will probably start. It seems Yoshinori Muto, the guy who replaced him at Mainz, might lose his place after a disappointing game v Cambodia last week. Shinji didn't score either, but looked pretty sharp and got reasonable reviews in the press afterwards.   Look out for the wonderfully named 'Mustafa Zazai' of Afghanistan. If his first name is shortened to 'Muzzy', he would be challenging Izzet's world 'z' record.
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Shinji starts. Muto dropped, as expected. Haraguchi of Hertha Berlin comes in for him.
MC Prussian Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Gökhan Inler could be part of the starting line-up against England tonight - manager Petkovic alluded to "two or three changes" following the less than convincing performance against Slovenia (during the first 80 minutes).  Either Dzemaili or Xhaka will have to make way again. Haven't seen Inler play.  Is he a box-to-box midfielder, like King, or more of a deep-lying one?
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Shinji playing very much the centre forward role. Like the Cambodia game last week. It's 31 degrees and it looks like players are conserving energy. The game's being played in Tehran and the stadium's 95% empty.
MC Prussian Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Haven't seen Inler play.  Is he a box-to-box midfielder, like King, or more of a deep-lying one? He's not as quick or as mobile as Kanté - but that's as much down to age as it is down to his height and playing style.  I wouldn't consider him a "box-to-box" type of midfielder, as he tends to secure the back line more often than he roams the opposing box. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't go forward during attacks. However, I'd love him to come up with more attempts on goal at Leicester. He used to do that regularly whilst he was at Udinese (and to an extent, in his early Napoli days).
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Great goal by Kagawa. Not sure I've ever seen him score from so far out. 1-0 after 10 minutes. Okazaki's had one touch so far, I think.
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Okazaki gets a good flick-on at the near post from a corner - flies right right across goal and no-one can get a touch.
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Now he flicks a header just wide - looked a bad miss but he was stretching for it.
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Another chance. From 8 yards he gets the timing all wrong on the header. Japan could be 4 up.
kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Finally a 2nd goal. Honda does well to pull the ball back and defender Morishige bundles it in.
justfoxes Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 What with tonight's game against Switzerland with Gokhan Inler and Jamie Vardy both hoping to start for their home countries, but when was the last time we had a Leicester player on both teams on the pitch together playing international football opposing each other? kushiro Posted 8 September 2015 Share Posted 8 September 2015 Second half just starting. Â Shinji couldn't score against Cambodia (rank 180). Â Vardy coudn't score against San Marino (rank 192) Â Now Shinji hasn't scored against Afghanistan (rank 130) Â Let's hope they're saving it for Villa...
