foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 October 2015 Posted 4 October 2015 I though it was a good read but didn't notice any errors? What are those errors as a matter of interest? Genuine question. The only one I could spot, was that it claimed Norwich tried to play us at our game... for me they don't play like us at all, and they are more of a possession side and use the big guy upfront a bit more.. The only side I think play similar to us is Crystal Palace... but even they don't play with such a high line like we do...
Bamba's Babes Posted 4 October 2015 Posted 4 October 2015 Pretty sure we have the least amount of possession on average this season in the Premier League. Vs Norwich we had 34%. It may look like we're under pressure but it's effectively part of the plan. It's a bend don't break approach.
Wymsey Posted 4 October 2015 Posted 4 October 2015 Only just under 3 months until we're able to sign a much-needed, top-class right-back.
FireFox Posted 4 October 2015 Posted 4 October 2015 West Brom just have less possession. But we still have the worst pass success rate and the least total passes. However, in terms of "action zones", 27% in our own half, 30% in the opposition's half, which are both very good (joint 6th and joint 5th). Maybe surprisingly, we have the least amount of offsides, at .8 per game.

Thracian Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 The team had good balance on Saturday. Hence the good performance. We're always going to risk possession in trying to play the kind of passes which offer chances to runners like Vardy and Schlupp. In fact we have good stats in the passing department with King (82%), Kante (82%) and Drinkwater (81%) doing pretty well giving the amount of possession we have and the amount of pressure we voluntarily absorb at times.
MPH Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 Only thing that worried me was we always seem to sit back. Norwich had us on the backfoot second half, nobody can deny that. It happened just the same at West Ham. I was very worried Norwich were going to make it 2-2. We should have sealed the game in the first half. The amount of chances we didn't take was unbelievable. That said, I do agree with your overall post. I'm more confident than ever going to games these days. Good win yesterday, Norwich aren't exactly pushovers. ": it's the Italian tactical way..."
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 That's the thing that worries me - I don't think the bottom three teams will be that awful all season. A season is a long time and they are big enough names to pull in crowds, players and points. The teams I hoped would be down there aren't. All the new teams have made respectable starts. As we found out last season, it's not difficult to go on a 'run', be it positive or negative. I can see relegation being a really right affair involving more teams than usual. As someone said earlier in the thread, let's get to new year and see where things are at. Just need to keep on accruing points by hook or crook. Those teams have been awful for a long time and deserve everything they are getting; they've all flirted with relegation the past few seasons. Whatismore they have had big name managers (Advocaat) and big name signings (Wijnaldum, Mitrovic, Sinclair, Richards, Kaboule, Borini) and it hasn't made a jot of difference. Lack of confidence is so very hard to overcome after a poor start, which makes our comeback last season all the more remarkable. I wouldn't be at all surprised if two of the current three go down.

Quoted us as the Premiership's top scorers with 17 goals when Man City have 19 ............... also a very dodgy spelling of "Canneries"!!
Wymsey Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 We need to be careful of 'we need to finish as high as we can' mentality in some ways. There's been a few teams over the years that have adopted this approach (i.e. 'punching above their weight') and struggled in the seasons after.

Why would finishing as high as we can this season mean we'll struggle this season?
Wymsey Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 Might have consequences for next season. Increased expectation (from the media etc) to perform better and lose less games etc could have a negative impact on players. Look at Chelsea, won league last season - was tipped to sign class players - and now struggling near the bottom (early days, but still). And no, I'm not talking off my arse again.
