Not just an accomplished premier league side but also the best side we've had in the modern era. Whether we'll finish as high as we did at MON's peak I'm not sure, but as a footballing side I'd say we're now better than that team even if we're not quite as effective just yet, if that makes sense. Certainly, this is the most entertaining Leicester side I've personally ever seen.

On attack I'd agree with you. Defensively we are nothing like the MoN era team.

Defensively we are actually quite similar, large but not particularly mobile centre halves. There still seems to be a myth about that team that we ground out 1-0 wins every week. In 99/00 we actually scored more than Liverpool and Chelsea and conceded a shed load too. Maybe the 'boring boring Leicester' chant was taken too literally by some of our fans.

Just for reference our goals scored / against in 99/200 was 55 to 55, last season was 46 to 55.

I was really worried after last week that confidence would go but the response was excellent.

Drinkwater and Kante looked superb Schupp was great playing with a bit more freedom and Vardy is in the form of his life

Some tough fixtures ahead but if we remain injury free we should be comfortable surely?

Ranieri has added technical know how.. His substitution decisions have turned games.. Different Gravy than Pearson!

Sometimes his substitutions are terrible too.

Why does every thread turn into a comparison. One manager has gone, a new manager is here. We are analyzing the new manager not the old one.

Seriously mate, what do you expect?

This is the Premiership..the most competitive division on the planet.

I don't think we as much 'sat back' as we got 'pushed back' by a confident side, playing at home and buoyed by a lively crowd.

Norwich were always going to have their spells in the game. They were the pre match favourites yesterday.

The result against the canaries was an exceptional win IMO. You're correct, we could have finished it off in the first half, but strikers miss chances, players make mis-passes etc etc.

Why I think we are better this season is for two reasons:

- we have a stronger squad with more strength in depth.

- we have a years worth of experience in the Premiership. Schlupp, Vardy, Drinks are all flourishing now at this level.

Long may this continue..we're fourth for God's sake!

Brilliant.....

I expect us to be more tighter and retain the ball better once we take a lead away from home? That's all. Not a criticism as such. Most people around me yesterday were saying the same thing.

True Col although we could and should have made it far more comfortable either by taking a couple more of our gilt edged chances or by using a bit of game management towards the end of the game. Sure it's admirable going for another goal by releasing Vardy but we should really be keeping the ball or running it into tge corners.

It would've been an absolute travesty if we hadn't have taken all 3 points yesterday after that first 45 mins which I thought was our best of the season so far. Just need to wise up a tad

That's the point I'm making.

You can 'expect' all you like. The opposition are good football teams and won't always allow you to.

We aren't a 'shutting up shop' type side.

Although I do agree..sometimes we give possession away too cheaply.

I think we can say,to date CR has shown us he is astute,a wily fox!

We survived last season partly as a result of the way the fixtures worked out.By the time we got to the run in,mainly playing lesser teams, the players had begun to adapt to the demands of PL football. So far we have only met Spurs and the Gooners of the big boys.It will be crucial to get results and bolster our points total over the next 5 games. The Soton game will be a good test of how far we have come, the next 4 games before Man U & December all look winnable.

We really need the points in the bag this season and to get results against mid & lower table teams because the last 4 games of the season look challenging.

CR isn't getting carried away if his post match comments of yesterday are an indication, his aim is 25 points more.

Good post this...

Very level.

Personally never seen the point in running the ball into the corner when you have the chance of a one on one.

It so often doesn't work.

It so often doesn't work.

On occasions though we didn't have one on ones and instead pumped aimless balls up to Vardy

Southampton, Palace, West Brom, Watford, Newcastle, Man U, Swansea, Chelsea and Everton before Christmas. Should scrape a point or two there  :P

Boxing Day we've got Liverpool then 2 days later we've got Man City, ouch

27 points then. :unsure::huh::D

Next two fixtures will really test our credentials, Southampton and Palace are the teams that look like they will finish top half maybe with an outside shot at Europa league, that is where we are aiming to be, good results against these two teams will show that top half is where we should be aiming a couple of defeats and no need to panic but it will be an indicator that we aren't quite there yet.

Then we have three games where we have to be picking up points before the tough run starts.

I'd be flabbergasted if we are still in the top 6-7 come the new year. We don't have the strongest squad, especially up front, and our goals against column suggests we'll be closer to the bottom 3 than the top 6 at the end of the season. Survival is still the aim.

But then I'm usually wrong about such things.

Have to disagree re your comments re strength of the squad. When was the last time the LCFC signed the quality we have over past 2 seasons? Our record signing and one of our best defenders last season can't even make the bench at present. Plus we now have resources and hopefully some security to keep attracting the likes of Kante, Inler and Fuchs - the latter two both Captains of their respective countries and both of them have hardly started.

The way the bottom 3are going we will be safe by Xmas. Also see us having more than 22pts by Xmas.

That's the thing that worries me - I don't think the bottom three teams will be that awful all season. A season is a long time and they are big enough names to pull in crowds, players and points. The teams I hoped would be down there aren't. All the new teams have made respectable starts. As we found out last season, it's not difficult to go on a 'run', be it positive or negative. I can see relegation being a really right affair involving more teams than usual. As someone said earlier in the thread, let's get to new year and see where things are at. Just need to keep on accruing points by hook or crook.

If Vardy gets injured I'll be worried. But in general you're right, we do have the resources and 'attractiveness' to bring in adequate replacements, and I'm confident we'll manage to avoid getting sucked into a serious relegation fight.

I though Drinkwater and Kante where exceptional yesterday. They were everywhere considering how warm it was. The Defence looked solid despite being under a lot of pressure. But while we did play well we gave the ball away too easily at times. Sometimes the right ball is the simple ball to the player in space instead of trying to thread ball through. King was just what we needed when he came on and Benny didn't do too badly either. Schlupp looked more comfortable going forward than he does defending. Yet he was there to assist Fuche at times when needed. Vardy's effort was amazing, the energy he uses up in a game and yet never drops his level is a credit to our Science team and Coaches. Keep it up lads.

15 points from 8 games is amazing really. It means unless we have a horrific run of defeats we will comfortably stay up, which is job done. Even if we take a point a game over the next 10, 25 from 18 is mid table form. Need to focus on getting max points from watford, newcastle, west brom.

It has been an amazing start. 15 over every 8 games would be 71 points. Not saying we will get that many points but just shows how well we have started.

We have a really tough December but in a way that could suit us as there's usually some shocks just due to the shear number of games and fitness wise there's probably not many teams better. Feel like pinching myself after all we have been through to now be an established prem side and looking the part. Just looking at soton away and thinking we might just scrape something is surreal.

This. That's why I'm worried about how short of confidence and match fitness Kramaric is. Sooner or later we are going to need him it's inevitable, shame we couldn't send him on a months loan and bring him back for dec

It is good but whatever happened to someone checking for errors before publishing? Incredible for a quality paper to let those slip

I though it was a good read but didn't notice any errors? What are those errors as a matter of interest? Genuine question.

Not saying we're going to win all them, but Man City is the only one I would write off in that list, whereas last season I'd have said maybe get a result at West Brom, Newcastle, Everton

We proved against Arsenal that we're playing to win against everyone we come up against. We'll get stung here and there but it's our strong point and more often than not it pays off. I also think that Ranieri will only gain confidence in his selections, his subs have already made a good impact in most games so far. Just need to keep the squad injury free. Or for them to all take tips off Vardy on how to play through a broken wrist and a buggered knee!

Posted

We used to take hidings off the big sides in the O'Neill days on occasions. Keep up the level of performance and work on defending as a team and we'll be alright. I think Ranieri favours the Italian approach of take the lead and defend it by counter-attacking, good in some ways but dangerous in others.
