Leicester 42nd Most Valuable Football Brand

Recommended Posts

Branding is a con!

But as long as so many people fall for it, then it will continue to be "valuable."

Suckers buy brands.

There was a time that a brand meant something and therefore was worth buying, for example, up until the 1990s, Nike or Adidas produced their products in their own factories, they were manufactured from materials produced in their own factories. This of course meant that if you were buying a Nike or Adidas product, you knew you were getting the best quality, they had proven that over the years.

But that my friends is no more , now those Nike shoes (or Adidas that i bought just yesterday) are made in massive (tax free) manufacturing suburbs in Thailand, Bangladesh and Malaysia. The materials are sourced from the cheapest possible suppliers. The machinists are not highly skilled workers, but just the poorest of the poor who the companies can afford to treat as little more than human machines.

The "cheap football shirts" thread is a classic example of logo's and the con they present to us. An official branded England shirt, purchased from the official branded sports store in Australia will cost me around $95-$125. On the other hand i can buy the unofficial (but still branded) england shirt from the manufacturer in China, the same shirt, the same quality the same markings and most likely made by the same machinists... for $12.50.. one TENTH the "cost" of the official product,

So, that is what the brand cost you... you pay 10x as much for something because of its brand, nothing else, no better materials, or workmanship, not employing people in your country, not helping your team out, you are paying ten times as much straight into the pockets of shareholders of Nike, or Adidas, Levis, Ralph Lauren, Stone Island.... etc etc etc

If "Brands" and what they mean are of interest to you... I highly recommend "No Logo" by Naomi Klein. (Rated M15+ contains intellectual concepts and socialist themes) :)

Slightly simplified, because people in the main are not quite that stupid.  The value on an item is not the sum of its raw materials, and frankly it never has been.
