davieG Posted 17 October 2015 Posted 17 October 2015 Me and MrsG must be the new Dumb and Dumber. Not sure who is who though.
leicsmac Posted 17 October 2015 Posted 17 October 2015 Absolutely not, older the wiser, firm believer in that. Surely the reason Labour get so many votes among the young is because they aren't be able to remember the last time they had power? But there is also something in often the older someone is the more they look into the past, which is not always the best thing to do for the future?
sdb Posted 17 October 2015 Posted 17 October 2015 Great question. In some aspects I agree. I feel like i've peaked at some things already and i'm only 29!
Parafox Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 No, it seems that virgins vote for Labour, and the further away from virginity one gets the more likely one is to vote conservative. Or is it that the older you get the more you enjoy fvcking over the young, underprivileged and the desperate
MooseBreath Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Or is it that the older you get the more you enjoy fvcking over the young, underprivileged and the desperate Seems unlikely
Guest Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Or is it that the older you get the more you enjoy fvcking over the young, underprivileged and the desperate There's probably a more selfish attitude but I wouldn't think it's that malicious
ScouseFox Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 id say i was in the top 2 or 3% of cleverest people in the country and im young

Izzy Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 id say i was in the top 2 or 3% of cleverest people in the country and im young And modest with it
Rincewind Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 There's probably a more selfish attitude but I wouldn't think it's that malicious Like turning into NIMBY's?
Sir Fynwy Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 There's probably a more selfish attitude but I wouldn't think it's that malicious Generally people who own more stuff have more interest in protecting their stuff, this is part of natural competition, it shouldn't stop people being compassionate
Finnegan Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 id say i was in the top 2 or 3% of cleverest people in the country and im young To be fair, they're all Scouse Not English. He probably is in the top 2% smartest Scousers. Still ****ing thick by British standards but yknow.
MC Prussian Posted 19 October 2015 Posted 19 October 2015 I don't entirely agree with Oz's initial statement, although some of it is probably true. May I add my point of view (mixed with a bit of assumptions on my behalf)? It's not only that we degenerate mentally and physically, it's also my understanding that after having seen, lived through and experienced a whole lot in your first 40 or 50 years, a lot of people develop a lower bar of tolerance. In political terms, I think as you grow older, you cherish what you've got and are thus more likely to vote for a party that helps you maintain your status quo. If I may cite the old adage "It's okay to vote Socialist when you're young, but it's foolish to do so when you're getting older" (on a sidenote, I vote rather pragmatically, be it left or right). In general, we also become less savvy for information/knowledge. Maybe it's down because we're inherently partly lazy and prone to procrastination. Maybe it's down to technology evolving at a speed unheard of and news available 24/7 - so much news in fact, that you are forced to develop a "shit filter", where all your (subjectively) worthless news pieces are automatically disregarded. In parts, as you get older, you also take things a bit less serious, especially once the generation of your grandparents starts dying away and you get a somewhat heightened sense of the luck of life and the fact that once you're gone, you're gone.
