Number 6 Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Voll has summed it up perfectly for me. Nice gesture but has become so common in football it has lost meaning. Also, the fact fans feel oppo supporters should join in is ridiculous. Remember WBA fans not being impressed we didn't do their minute's applause - it's your cause folks, not ours. Then Vardy went and shat all over Astle day too, they must hate us.
Fox92 Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I hate all this over analysis. If you choose to stand up and applaud Aaron on the 22nd minute then great, his family will be proud. If you don't know about it or choose not to then that's also fine. That is all. This is a forum though so we've got to see both sides of the argument. Not to be disrespectful but I echo Voll Blau's post. When did all this wanting to clap start? RIP to the fan, terrible at such a young age.
Strokes Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I've joined in tributes to former stars of the club that haven't meant alot to me, as I have never seen them personally. I want a fitting tribute reserved for those that have given us such special times, not a regular fit for anyone tribute. I'm sure Aarons family and friends aren't aware they are in danger of spoiling this gesture, and they have probably just got carried away with it a little. I just hope they don't expect too much.
NewquayFox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Sincere condolences to the lads family, would be fantastic if City scored in the 21st/22nd minute and the lads family could see the cheers & applause on MOTD , have to agree with Voll's comment though... Up the City and rest in peace Aaron....
AndWhat? Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 The last comment on this Facebook post pretty much sums up why I hate these things. This guy doesn't give a shit about Aaron or his family, he's just happy it's happening because he can say he organised it.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I have every sympathy for what they're going through, and it's galling to think someone's passed away so young, but these gestures are becoming so common in football that they've become hollow and lost all meaning. The best way to honour a fellow fan is to sing your heart out for the full 90. Well said Voll, with all respect to the guy.
Larry_LCFC Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I feel for the family but I don't like the idea one little bit. Echo what has been said really, it should be reserved for people who have achieved alot for the club, otherwise it loses its meaning. There should be an annual minutes applause for all fans who have died in that year, but not individually.
Wymsey Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Why not raise money for the family, such as money buckets etc outside the ground - with a picture of Aaron on the bucket-holder's T-shirt?
Chloeannaliese Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Hi this is Chloe, Aarons cousin. Firstly I just want to say thank you to everyone for the backing this has had. It has bought great comfort to our family. For the fans and some players of a club Aaron was devoted to too acknowledge his passing is amazing. Secondly, the 22 is significant as it was his lucky number and birthday. Thirdly, i appreciate it might not be meaningful to you, but as stated previously you do not understand the comfort an act like this can bring a grieving family. If you do not wish to participate that is fine. But please do not post negative comments. Also thank you all for your condolences, they also mean a lot.
Stretc Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I am Aaron's sister thank u for all the kind comments it is a real support at a very difficult time that people can show kindness to someone most of u don't even know. However please can u all be aware the 22nd min clap was an idea of another Facebook user which of course our family found very heartfelt and proud of. Aaron was a mascot at the ground as a child and a devoted fan if u wish to clap please do so if not it's personal choice. All football fans that have pasted away deserve a clap not just my brother so please can we keep the comments positive we do not wish to offend anyone just trying to do something positive in his memory. Many thanks
