bovril Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 You'd need to be in an ejector seat to have a chance of escaping an airliner. At least that would stop people reclining them, the bastards It would be even better if the button was within reach of the person in front.
stripeyfox Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 Or maybe he's not an idiot, he just didn't know something, as tends to happen sometimes. I was talking generally rather than about a specific individual. But point taken
stripeyfox Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Interesting developments with this one. No official word from investigators but the British government seem convinced it was a bomb. All flights to and from Sharm suspended. Not sure if other countries are taking a similar stand?

All flights to and from Sharm suspended. Not sure if other countries are taking a similar stand? Reports over here in the states also saying it was "most likely" a bomb. It DID seem too much of a coincidence to me that a short time after Russia steps up its antics in Syria, a plane load of Russians die. I wonder if Russians were warned this might happen if they don't stop their involvement, i wonder also if the UK have been warned too which is why we have now suspended flights from that area... EDIT: i also wonder if they have come to the conclusion that there is no point warning the U.S as they will from send plane loads of troops over if one of their planes is bombed...
bovril Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Surely it would take longer to organise such an operation than Russia have been in Syria. And haven't we been told by our press that Russia have not been hitting ISIS? Basically nobody knows anything.
Fox92 Posted 18 November 2015 Posted 18 November 2015 Reuters reporting that a bomb which downed the aircraft was placed in the MAIN CABIN. Unnamed source so far and I've seen nothing from the likes of Sky or the BBC yet. Of course the initial reports indicated that it was a bomb in the baggage hold. I'm amazed that someone in this day and age could get a bomb on board. A bomb that downed a Russian plane in Egypt last month had been placed in the aircraft's main cabin not in the cargo compartment as reported earlier, the daily Kommersant said on Wednesday citing an unnamed source. The newspaper, citing a source close to the investigation of the crash, said the epicenter of the explosion appeared to have been at the rear of the cabin near the tail section. "According to a preliminary version, the bomb could have been laid under the passenger seat by the window. Its operation has led to the destruction of the frame and depressurization of the cabin, which had an explosive character," the newspaper said.

stripeyfox Posted 18 November 2015 Posted 18 November 2015 The scary thing is that you don't need a very big bomb to destroy an aircraft. The bomb that caused the destruction of the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie was concealed in a transistor radio and the investigators determined that it blew a hole about the size of a dinner plate in the side of he plane but the shockwave, pressure differential and airspeed do the rest.
