He joined The Foxes’ training camp to work with their goalkeeping coaching staff, stayed overnight with the club and expects to play a full or partial role in a competitive trial game today. Then tomorrow it’s back to Greenfields to keep for Town in their home Evo-Stik First Division South clash with Belper. The youngster has been watched by a string of professional clubs this season – but the emergence of Premier League Leicester at the head of the pack was unexpected. “I got a call on Sunday and it all went very quickly from there,” said Town manager Martyn Davies. “It’s a great opportunity for the lad to experience the training facilities of a really big club. “I’m delighted for him. The moment the rest of the guys knew, they were all wishing him well. “Above all, in addition to being a class act, he is a level-headed sort who can take this in his stride, whatever the outcome. For such a young player, there’s a tremendous maturity about his game.

thursday_next Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Is that picture there genuinely Ash Rawlins, or is it some generic shot featuring goalkeepers, or in fact footballers at random? I think we should be told. How are meant to make up our minds about him if all we have is one foot?

filbertway Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Some good keepers in that division Saul Deeney is playing for Basford there as well. Good luck to the guy.

ousefox Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 I don't think this is very uncommon. One of my mates had a weeks trial and was put straight in with Logan and Kasper a couple of years ago and nothing came of it.
Tielemans63 Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 With a bit of luck he'll be the new Jacob Blyth.
Saxondale Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Trying to scout raw keeper talent must be bloody difficult. You could stick a wig on Joe Hart and send him to Market Drayton and don't think anyone would notice he's England's no1, even if he did pull off a few blinding saves. If you sent Wayne Rooney to Market Drayton, it'd be immediately obvious he's a cut above.

Thracian Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 Pity we can't seem to train up our own goalkeepers. I thought Stowell was supposed to be a specialist in that department.

I kind of get what your saying, an outfield player probably will (depending on how the game goes) have more of an opportunity shine and show off their abilities. I think this is probably why more keepers are known to having trials as they will be given a more thorough inspection. Obviously pulling off some worldie saves is going to help you stand out and increase your chances to be signed but think scouts will look for more than just pulling off a good save to warrant a trial such as physique, communication, command of 18 yard box, awareness, handling etc
