Of course I won't have the context that you older fans have, but I was at Wembley when we beat Tranmere and I have some grasp on the level of joy MON brought to our club (even though I was young, and the only way I can frame it is by recalling what I saw and heard, and then reading up on our history. But I wear my Muzzy shirt with pride). Regardless, your deducing how long I've supported the club is irrelevant and pushing towards an ad hominem argument. Anyway, Claudio just won us the Premier League. There is no argument and your pedantic diatribes don't change that. You are certainly entitled to have your opinion -- we can both agree on that --, but your view is a poor view and I'm happy to piss on it, as others have. Honestly, I think Leicester fans are the only ones in the world who are magnanimous enough to give credit to someone who nearly relegated their team. I'm sure Chelsea fans weren't slobbering over Ranieri when Mourinho won the Prem the following year after his sack. Daft! Utterly daft! Surely what is "Daft! Utterly daft!" is to condemn Pearson on the basis that we were bottom for 140 days last season, while ignoring the facts that he got us out of Division Three at the first attempt, took us to two play-off semi-finals, got us promoted from tier two as Champions, brought in almost all of the players who won the Premier League, assembled the key back-room team of Craig Shakespeare, Steve Walsh, and Paul Balsom, established our sports-science/fitness/performance set-up, and - along the way - got us out of the aforementioned relegation spot. Recognising Pearson's record-breaking achievements is hardly being magnanimous.

Nigel did great things for our club, but Claudio certainly ranks "better" in our history given what he has just accomplished!

Babylon Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Why are people arguing, it's just opinion and i can understand both sides of it. As I said early on in this thread, there are many different areas to management and different managers have shown totally different qualities. Ranieri has shown exceptional tactical ability, far ahead of any of the other managers. His handling of the media and how it was used to release pressure from the team was the same. MON and Pearson showed totally different things. Pearson lacked the tactical ability, but was himself exceptional in fostering the right mentality within the squad. He pretty much setup the whole background team at the club that did and continues to excel. And whilst Walsh might be the scouting eye, Pearson put him in place and trusted him. MON probably showed the greatest all round skill set, tactically he was ok, he could build a team spirit every bit as good as Pearson. He had an eye for a player himself and didn't rely just on someone else. He had his own unique way with the press. We'll probably never need to see the whether Ranieri himself could create a squad from nothing like those two, or whether he can create an amazing team spirit from scratch, so it's hard to judge on those areas of his management... but he has done something we never dreamt as being possible, so for me it has to go to him. That said, I can certainly get why someone would say MON. I wasn't around pre Pleat, so can't comment on the others before that.
